I just wondered.....

Although Im keen to do weddings/parties/functions where a general mix of music styles is what is needed as this seems to pay more - I do appear to have a niche here in Stoke-On-Trent and the North West in general for Motown/Northern Soul/Modern Soul gigs which is something I hope to capitalise on firstly because this is my main love of music ( I was part of the scene in the 70's) and secondly because it because appears to offer me a lot of regular work (esidences of one or two nights a month) from the first enquiries I have made.

I just wondered if there are any other DJs here playing to this type of venue?

Or to make this more general - DJs specialising in other fields who could relate experiences of their chosen genre

Prepare to be trampled in the rush. :D

Dicky, we do indeed have DJs specialising in many and various types of music. One of our esteemed members in Cumbria, Deltic, has just started a monthly Motown/Northern night, and reports it to be very very popular.
Funkymook is fluent in Mod, and many other styles, Shakermaker is our Indie man, and as for Corabar Steve, well if you want to know anything about Steampunk, he is The Oracle.

Apologies to anyone I've overlooked, dive in and fill in the gaps.

I started off as a House DJ and still do a fair few events playing that genre, specifically Electro House (although I do float across the different sub-genres). Actually went through a period where I became a bit of a bookworm on it and taught myself as much as I could about House music. Even did a 'mecca' type journey to Chicago and New York, and I got to speak to some people there about it. Very insightful and incredibly interesting (well, it was to me!).

I know a lot of guys who played House from the early 90s, but refuse to acknowledge how the genre has progressed. To them, it's not what House music is supposed to be and they chastise the DJ's and people who enjoy it (which, to me, is incredibly ironic bearing in mind the basis and principles in which House music was built on). Sadly, they just can't seem to grasp that this is year 0 for the young ones. I find a lot of people do want to know about music and how it got here, but instead of having a lot of people being willing to educate those who want to listen, most are told that the stuff they listen to today is :Censored: and what was around years ago was considerably better.

Northern soul is popular in Carlisle.
I have been asked to do northern soul gigs but I had to refuse because it was upstairs and my gear is too heavy for going upstairs.

On the first disco I worked for one of their disco's only played soul/northern soul music.
They had a big following.
