How big are your balls?

Mirror balls that is, of course :daft:

Taking some advice from this forum (cheers guys) I'm thinking of getting a larger one as a centrepiece for an alternative lighting system to use on Soul/Disco nights. .I currently have a 12" one.

I think I know where there is a really large one that could be mine at hopefully minimal cost. At least I have seen it lying around gathering dust for some time in the back office of a venue that was a working mans's club back in the day, where I supply satellite and TV systems. I think it's been there since they fitted an all new lighting system last year at least..

Anyway I was hoping I may appropriate this one for myself (motor is with it too) Not sure what size it is but it is large, probably 2 foot across or more.

So I wondered how big are your balls, so to speak, and what size does it take to create something quite eyecatching?

OK went and got that large mirror ball today - it was free of charge as the guy definitely owes me a few favours

It turned out to be 20 inch - not quite as big as I thought as it looked larger in the small back office there

It also needs a little bit of TLC as at some point someone decided to paint the club ceiling black and didn't take the mirror ball down first!! But nothing a bit of white spirit and elbow grease should not solve

Also thrown in were for free were 3 PAR 36 pinspots to go with the nine I already have but not connected up yet. Oh and a 'faulty' Acer Aspire laptop with large screen, 1.8GHz celeron CPU 1Gb RAM and 100Gb HDD running windows 7. The supposed fault being 'It's had a new screen fitted but now you can't use it to send emails because when you press the @ button you get a different symbol on screen'

Just checked it out - working fine after a slight adjustment to the key map :) :) :) Some days I just seem to land on my feet!!!

Total cost = nowt.

Wonder if that Acer is powerful enough to run Serato DJ and if so perhaps I could connect one of these to it http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/ion-dj2go-ultra-portable-computer-dj-system-n34kh as a proper backup system? Or the Newmark version of the same.

Yeah I know it comes with Virtual DJ Pro but was thinking better to have some software on both PCs if possible
