Pub Disco

You may remember from previous threads and replies, that i worked at my local and was basically getting ripped off, well it turns out that the landlord had his lease removed due to treating people wrong, fighting etc you name it

Well how the tables have tured as My mum is now taking over the pub and she and I will run it. It gives me the chance to try out trainee DJ's & KJ's with me sometimes in attendance, As i will still be running the Disco business as normal.

Does anyone think that i am perhaps taking on too much? I am leaving my current part time job at Sky TV.

If you're leaving your current job and have the time and energy to put into the pub business then I see no reason why it would be too much. Your'e a man of determination and I can see you succeeding at anything you do :).

...and about trying the trainees out: great minds think alike! We have a residency that we do at a reduced rate, but strictly on the understanding that we can use it as a 'training ground' when we want to! :D

Great idea, and you could even hook up the mixer output to a minidisc deck or something - so you can listen to the entire night later for review! :)

whilst things look now employ some more part time staff and stay in your part time job as well. The smoking ban has hit a lot of businesses badly in scotland, even If you can make it viable to make a good profit as well as train up new DJ's the I wish you my best. Itys better to have a back up income should things go wayward

Don't know about Fife, but my area (Lothians and Edinburgh) seems unaffected. I think it's just the smaller, more isolated pubs which are suffering for it.

The smoking ban has certainly left a fe of the pubs quieter and that included the one that we are taking over however, the previous owner didn't help himself as he did not have any entertainment on a saturday night at all, and he also had a bad attitude and lost a lot of his own customers through his attitude and general handelling of people, so hopefully we will win custom back and it will take off, also we are introducing food & meals, which he did'nt

Karaoke on Friday & Sundays, Pub disco on a sturday (all main bar)

Function room will either have functions if no function booked then we shall do 60/70's nights. 80/90s nights etc , basically something will be on every Fri/Sat in the function if there is not a function booked.

Also we are introducing food, live football in the function room for familys to enjoy a wee drink with football, whilst football in the public bar will be adults only.
we will ask the customers what they think and take thier suggestions on board and take it from there.

There is also a large number of quality comedians/cabaret acts within fife, so we will also use these guys as well.

I read that a chain is to stop showing football matches in their pubs. They did some research & found that the average customer would buy a couple of pints during the match. If a game wasn't on, families would go there & spend significantly more - on food & drink. Interesting!!

So the chain (can't remember which one!) is to begin fazing out football matches. Don't know if it's during the week or just weekends, can't see that many families would be going there mid week to eat!

bigdevs, i agree to a certain point, however we are looking at having the football in both public and function bars, the footy in the function will be for families only, whilst single louts etc will be in the public bar. The pub in question that we are taking over did get busy when they shwoed the footy and usually by families as well as sons want to watch football with dad, but dad wanted a pint etc.

i remember as a kid i used to enjoy going to dad's local to watch football and be piled with crisps and coke to keep me happy....

Karaoke 2 times a night maybe too much. May I suggest a pole dancing night (kits available in Tesco's) to get the girls in, best dancer getting a gift from nearest say hairdressers or tanning bar you will also get more male customers as well then you could do best male dancer for a laugh and trust me its hilarious

Get any prizes donated by local businesses of course and your doing a cheap plugs for them (You could get loads of prizes for charity nights) etc etc. Just by asking the local businesses you can get more custom visa versa as they feel valued. They even could come for pub lunches etc etc a sort of you rub my back senario...........

May I suggest a pole dancing night (kits available in Tesco's) to get the girls in, Hmmm - and very in keeping with the 'family-friendly' venue that they would appear to be targeting! :eek: (....and surely you mean "to get the blokes in"!!!!!!:zip: )

No I meant to get the girls in, blokes will follow naturally and girls are as bad as blokes drinking these days if not worse. and its only an every now and then thing say once a month, so would not distract from the family thing

Regarding pole dancing, we are not looking to get leachers in... (Although badger your welcome to visit ;)) Karaoke goes down well in that bar, it was previously two nights a week, and its full of "Singers" well who think they can sing :)

perhaps a one off pole dance night for charity would go down, but not on a regular night...plus you haven't seen a nice lookin woman in Dunfermline....they are known as tourists
