Compact speakers

Hi,

I am looking for a compact system and am stuck deciding between two systems:

Bose L1 Compact

HK Audio Lucas Nano 600

They are both coming in around the same price.

Initially I would like to run on one (are they powerful enough?), with a view to buying a second at a later date.

My initial gigs are weddings, for around 100 guests, all in hotels, with not huge rooms (no gyms etc!)

So what are your thoughts on them? Is one enough for 100 people? Is there a difference between them? Is one better than the other? Or is there something else I've not even spotted?

Well, other options are RCF Evox, more costly if you get the bigger one. That impressed me at Coalville. Lower cost, LD Maui 28, gets good reports from many folk. There is also a Maui 44, which is noticeably dearer, but also more powerful.

Which is better, sorry no idea.

If you're on Facebook, search for the 'Bose L1' group. There's loads of people on there with Bose compact setups and you'll get some great advice. Also, go here: http://bose.infopop.cc/eve and look down the list for 'Just for VJ's and DJ's'. The sound of a Bose system is different to other speakers, and despite what other DJ's may say it's the guests that matter. You'll find that you'll get many compliments on the sound, especially if Weddings are your thing. I have the big brother of the compact, the Bose L1 Mk2 and it is awesome, such clarity and punchy bass from the 2 x B2's.

Best thing would be to try and find a local dealer and go and listen to the system. The compact is a very capable (and transportable) system.

Oh, and to answer your question about capability... In smaller rooms one would probably be adequate for up to 100. However, two would be much better (and you'd have a backup if one should fail) ;)

Ohh, not sure about that nano for 100 guests?
I used to have a 10 inch LD dave (with my RCF tops) in a small room and it was no where near as powerful.
I am also not one to turn the volume up, but the specs are a bit better - just does not look big enough for low frequencies?

I currently use an LD Dave system 12, which is just right for 90% of applications.
Having said that i changed the speakers for RCF 310's (or any other circa 128/9 SPL speaker) but the ones that came with it are OK.

Get them second hand for the same costs and you wont go wrong.
The don't look as sexy, but they will give a better sound and you won't have to strain the system.
Been using that for 6 years now - spot on!!

I suggest get the 12 and see how you get on, but I assume you have a larger system, so this may be too bulky perhaps??
I have the G2, so one would assume the G3 is even better/louder. The G1 was alright but i use that as back up now.

Perfect, I aim to have a second after a few gigs - just would be a big help to be able to do the first few (that are in small rooms in hotels) with just the one.

So 1 x LD Dave System 12 is capable of what size gig? How many people/what size room have you achieved with it?

Price wise it is very tempting!
