Invisible Disco

I'm a newbie looking for advice on how to set up a permanent home disco (all ceiling fittings) using equipment that doesn't look like it belongs in a nightclub. I need a strobe light, backlight, and a centrepiece that preferably has some movement and built in lasers. The ceiling is low so I need items which have a wide dispersion. The setup is for home use and my wife will only be ok with items that look similar to normal home fittings and or light fixtures. I'm hoping to use high quality items, not cheap under performing toys. I realise that most of the good stuff will look bulky but again, am tapping into this forum to benefit from the experience of others.

The only way I can really see that working is having fixtures recessed into your walls / ceiling which might be a bit over and above what you're looking at doing...

ADJ are doing a bunch of cool (and small) barrel scanners and moving heads just now which might be suitable. Apart from that you could always fit mood lighting / panels etc... into the walls and ceiling and control them by remote or dmx

First one that came to my mind was the Jellydome type of effect. Doesn't look too unlike a " normal " light fitting, and would give good coverage.

I've shifted my thinking to panels as well. There's a company (http://www.disco-designer.com/) who have nice plain white panels that are DMX controllable and put out a seemingly nice array of effects but it comes at a steep price. There's also a company called Proel (Proel Waps) who are making high quality disco lights that have a white body and fit into a standard light bulb but truth be told I viewed them in action on Youtube and found them to be a bit slow. Do you know if there is a light rack with small moving heads that also has a built in laser; also the exterior would preferably be white. I'm not even a beginner DJ but have done enough research to understand what is more on less on offer in the market..

That's quite a good idea actually.

I did a room once that had a single jelly dome (or something similar) attached to the middle of the ceiling and it did a cracking job of filling the place - if you DMX'd it to stay white, dimmed and not move you could potentially use it as a normal room light too providing you didn't mind the squares on the walls and floor..

I had another idea depending on space you could build false beams running up the walls and false covings in the corner with holes cut in them hiding the body of the lights but with the projecting parts able to do their thing through the holes....

Failing that you could just get a couple of hundred metres of rope lights and go mad with some superglue :D

And hello to you; I've noticed some companies make moving heads on a rack (rail?) that look similar to modern day home use LED spotlights and are not much bulkier (American DJ Event Bar Pro for example). The trick would be to find a product that comes in white and/or that is not super bulky. There are no electronic shops where I live so I'm having to rely on dimensions of products provided online rather than having the preferred opportunity of walking into a store and handling the products directly. Anyway, if I could find something that could pass as a daily light fixture in terms of looks it may be worth considering..
