The list is:

Major service and MOT
Oil Sump change (which I knew about anyway, so I booked it in for MOT, Service and Sump change)
Brake light
Nearside and offside track rods replaced
Four tyres replaced
Wheel balancing
Wheel allignment

So its more the major service and 4 tyres that set you back - surprised it needed rears already

Holy :Censored: Benny!! Makes my £500 for mine look positively cheap. :) A day's labour for a kingpin swap ( don't ask. Most modern vans are usually a different system ) total rear brake rebuild, and a few odds and ends.

Mind you, it helps when your brother runs a garage, and you do as much of the labour yourself, so my figure is probably not truly accurate.

PS. Benny, what it cost you to test your van would have bought mine, and had change for a night out!! :D

Ouch! Thanks for the MOT reminder though mines due in a few weeks and I always seem to remember about a week before its due!

Do you get your van serviced regularly? I always thought it was silly to shell out £250 to service my van yearly when things will break anyway but I've noticed the things that are going wrong now are small and cheap ... could just be a coincidence though!

92k miles on the clock. I'm surprised they lasted this long.

I always get my van and car serviced when they get MOT'd. Probably is overkill, but saying that (touch wood), I have never sat on a motorway shoulder waiting for recovery.

Ah good good - I get my MOT in May and mobile mechanic comes round to do a service in October.
I had a bit of a scare / funny moment last Wednesday morning - I was in Ilfracombe for a wedding on Tuesday and on the drive back around 4am my van's headlights where pulsing slightly, only 30 mins from home I ignored it and carried on ... 15mins later airbag warning light, abs warning light, handbrake light all coming on one by one. I pulled over when the speedo gave up the ghost. Figured the battery was going bad but I had to make 5 stops for the last 15 mins to charge the battery up so my speedo still worked! That only cost me an hour of my time and £90 though :)

I have a mate who does the difficult work but I service myself and do the easy jobs. Just got an estate car at moment and probably upgrading to a van next year.

Mine cost £0.
It is only a year old and came with 2 free services.
On the first service they found an oil leak and it went back in for 3 days to get that fixed.
It cost zero under warranty and I got a free courtesy car.
