Sound in Marquees

Hi

I'm interested to know if the sound in a marquee is much different to a venue?

I assume you need some extra volume as there won't be as much "bounce" off the walls like you get inside.

But like for like size between an inside room and a marquee, how much extra volume is required?

Very . It's the same as being outdoors except you haven't got the wind blowing your sound away completely! Take a walk down the marquee and judge for yourself if the volume is comfortable or not and make necessary adjustments. It will probably sound very loud down your end but will disperse more readily than in a room. Your ears are your meters in that situation. You will certainly need a bass boost in a marquee!

I would assume a line array would come into its own in a marquee to project the sound better??

You will need extra bass compared to a normal room, but I have previously done find with one LD Dave (despite having 2).
That was a wedding, so depends on the guest numbers and music played.

It was very interesting playing with a sound limiter last night and witching which tracks put it into the red and which ones did not.

I have a wedding coming up in a few weeks for 220 people in a marquee at one of my residencies and I know I will have to use the subs.
I had the same numbers last year in the same marquee and it was banging on the dance floor which is what I think it needs. You could still hear it quite clearly towards the back of the marquee when I went out front. It was comfortable for people to talk though which is always a good thing.
I did think beforehand about taking extra actives and linking them a bit further down the marquee but I didn't need to.

Or battery speakers. I use a battery jack Kam lapel mic system but the wrong way round (e.g. mini jack from the output, receiver in the speaker). :)
