To scrim or not to scrim - that is the question

Thinking of getting some scrims for my stands - do they look good or are they a waste of money

Personally, not a huge fan but they have their place on occasion (such as one I've got in a couple of weeks' time).

always use black scrim on my stands, personally love the look of stands with them on.
They are ideal for hiding mains and spaker wire.

I really don't like them on speaker and lighting tripods, but think they are fine on trussing podiums to soften the 'industrial look' bare aluminium truss can create.

I've used my trusty homemade scrims for years!
I used to have an all white setup with white table cloth also but I decided that the black would look better and I think the black speakers / table cloth tie it all together well.

Not really sure why people aren't keen on them to be honest!

Definitely a marmite thing. Some love them so don't. I just think they look....weird! No offence intended to those that use them.

I'm sure they have their place. I've seen scrimmed setups & thought "ooo, nice" and then "eugh.. horrible". As I so often say, context is key I think. Or maybe illumination is key.

On the other hand translucent backlit scrims on trussing always look much better than bare truss IMHO.

Oooh, I dunno. I've used my podium trusses with truss covers (lit) and without. I always preferred the look without the covers.



re: scrims, I think the general consensus is it's all down to personal taste at the end of the day.

Agreed - especially after spending two whole days on the lawn last week with wet & dry paper, T-Cut and metal polish on my TriLite trusses :daft:

Unless you're about to reveal that you have exposed copper wires running from your kit, it's not wires. It's leads or cables. :daft:

I agree with Shaun. No scrims on truss plinths look better (I'd actually use the word 'classier' to be honest). If you like the scrims, go for them but if it's just to hide your cables, I would suggest better cable management would be the answer. :)
