As you may well know I'm pretty new to running a DJ business having established myself in Oct 13 as a promise I made myself turning 40 (another story).

In the coming weeks I will be celebrating my 100th gig. Ive already booked over 100 looking at future bookings but these go to 2017 so im going to count this when I do the 100th gig as im sure more will come inbetween now and then - or Im bloody hoping they do.

So did you do anything to celebrate - did you even count. How many do you think youve done in total now?

I still get excited at my latest disco gig as I did at my first one.

I can't say I've been watching that carefully if I'm honest. Since I started in 2009, it looks like I have done:

88 Walk in gigs
27 Weddings (feels like a lot more than that - I suspect a few have been categorised into General)
141 Kids parties
169 General parties (including Xmas, Engagements, Birthdays, etc)

=425

At present I have a total of 54 for this financial year, 17 of which are included in the total above - remembering that my calendar for Nov, Jan, Feb and Mar is currently empty, that's not half bad and I reckon I'll hit 500 before April next year as I did 97 last year alone.

Like you I keep a note of the type of gigs I am doing and what the average price is.

I'm using a booking system that I built back in the days of doing Bouncy Castles, luckily it has reports built into it which made pulling out those stats a 30 second job :)

I won't publish my earnings and earnings per gig if you don't mind :D

might have worded that poorly - wasn't asking for them.

I've just been using excel as I can get it most places, did think about doing a crazy access thing but think its over the top

Sorry, my comment was a bit tongue in cheek, I know you weren't asking for my figures ;)

If I hadn't already had a system, I doubt I would have built it (though having said that I have invested a lot of time in it this last year to expand on the customer facing features). I think I probably would have bought into something like DJEP instead. I do think having these kinds of system give customers confidence that they're booked because they can see that they exist somewhere in your diary.

For my actual booking diary I use the google calendar and invite the client to the appointment, this gives them the knowledge that its booked and safe

A signed booking agreement will probably make them feel more secure.

Echosign and DJEP is a winning combination. Works out about £20 per month.

Yes, do this too but normally do them in bulk where as the diary I confirm straight away

DJEP and plain old .PDF docs for me. Using version 11+ of Adobe Reader gives the user the ability to electronically sign the document. I know the cons - what if people don't have the latest version of Adobe Reader - but I've not had a problem since I started doing this. And it's FREE!!!! :) (well, the PDF bit. DJEP is around £13 per month!).

Did somebody say Access was over the top??????

I made this when I started and it's looking very dated and I don't use half of the features now but its very useful!
