Stupid question alert!

I know this is going to seem like a silly question, but I'm asking with a 'belts and braces' mentality:

I've had an enquiry for a wedding in Belfast (the happy couple were guests at a wedding I did a year or so ago). Now, I've spoken to them on the phone and I've pointed out that it ain't gonna be cheap and that there will be DJ's in Belfast who will work to the same standard as I but will not have to pile on the added costs, but they still want to hear a quote to see if they can budget for me (which does make me smile, I'll admit). I am going to get back to them once I add up costs and such, but my question is this: can anybody think of any reason why I can't simply just drive the van with my kit to Liverpoool, get onto the ferry and do the gig? Am I missing a proverbial hair in the soup?

That's exactly it.

It's a similar thing to when I perform on the Isle of Wight - drive down, jump on ferry, and do everything as normal!

Have you asked why they are keen to use you (I assume it's someone who has seen you perform before, rather than just found you online?)

There's going to be a lot of expense fuel , ferry , hotel , your time driving there and back and if your gear is not insured in the van might be worth considering ?

I would think it's going to add up to at least a thousand pounds more than your standard charge ?

I've quote for a couple IOW events - can't remember the pricing but I think I worked out that I'd want another £150 to cover ferry and hotel.
Nobody has taken me on with that added price!

Well it seems logistically there's no hoops I need to jump through.

Cost wise, I would be very surprised if this went ahead, but they have asked the question so I will provide the answer. :)

fly over and rent the kit over there? There are a couple of good quality DJs over there I can point you towards if you need a starting point?

Ah but that's where I'm from, so have family there = a 'free' family visit + free accommodation!

Here's another consideration... every event I do, I see as a way of marketing myself through recommendations etc. You won't get this at the event at Belfast (unless you want to make this a regular trip!), so account for that.

Also, it's likely you'll need to block out the day either side of the event to account for travel etc.

However, on the flip side, if it's feasible, make a weekend of it and enjoy your little trip away being paid for you.

If its eire just make sure your factoring if your insurance covers you as its not UK.

I did have that thought too. Can you do me a favour and message me the details of those DJ's please? Like I say, I don't see this coming off and I want to be able to suggest someone good. :)
