I know that this is a forum for Mobile Discos, and our industry dictates that we don't get to go see many games or episodes of Match of the Day (the latter may not be such a bad thing) but seeing that this weekend is the kickoff for the Premier League season and last week saw the kick off for the rest of the football league, I figured that now would be as good a time to start a Footie thread as any. :beer1:

I'm an Aston Villa supporter. It was how I was bought up. It's not all bad though, as I'm pretty sure that on my day of Judgement I could wear my Villa shirt to prove to God that I've been through hell already.

I have a soft spot for Yeovil Town - I used to manage them all the time on the Football Manager games and I quite like them as a team.

West Ham for me. Not sure what this season has in store for us but it's an important one. With reference to the first game of the season....we're against Arsenal and I think they are potential champions this season so I think we're going to get hammered 4-1 on Sunday.

Maybe a lot of us who follow the game agree with those mods mate but it doesn't stop us following our teams. I was born just down the road from Upton Park so I've always been a fan......(I also like the rugby too).

Ah, those poor rugby players just about achieving the bread line. :rolleyes: Football markets itself better. It's as simple as that. Is it justified? Not even remotely, but if people will pay for it then I certainly would take the money.

Anyway, in actual football news:

The loan move for Adebayor to Villa could very well be in jeopardy. Is it the £100k a week wages? No. The training facilities? No. Is it because Villa won't be giving certain first team football? No.

It's because Adebayor wants to commute everyday from London to Birmingham and not stay somewhere local, even if it is just on the days he's training/playing at Villa Park. :rolleyes:

Looking forward to another season of dashed hopes and false starts as a devotee of the Arsenal.

And the sooner rugby fans remove the overly greasy chips from their shoulders and realise that football is more entertaining to watch, the sooner we can all move on and be happy! The money isn't the footballers fault, it's market forces.
Just like DJs who think they can charge £850 because they have Wizards-on-sticks and car speakers installed in drainpipes!!!!

I will be singing sweet chariott with everyone else during the comming world cup as we have a chance of winning at home.

I don't think that rugby will ever reach the commercial heights of football as there are many fewer countries that play the game.

I definitely agree with that bit. Having been a player and a referee, there is very little respect for the man in the middle. But despite it's lack of order in that dept, it is still the working man's game, whereas rugby still has a slight air of pomposity and middle class public school about it. Players called Giles and Nigel playing drinking games until they fall over and singing outdated sexist songs whilst mooning through a coach window......

Liverpool fan and also follow my home town Southport (just had their new kit through the post). Hope to see some of their away games as they're in Cheltenham's league now. As for the reds well who knows, good start though and stoke away isn't an easy fixture.

Chelsea fan here who used to be a "real supporter" for 36 years until that horrible Roman Abramovitch took over and henceforth made me a glory hunter in the process. I no longer have the same passion for football as i had as it is all money orientated, win at any cost state of affairs that is the norm now.

As an AFC Wimbledon supporter I'm glad that first game is out of the way.

There was the usual pre season hype of "best squad ever assembled", "definite play off contenders" etc etc. This season Neal Ardley is playing a 343 formation that really worked well on Saturday. Dominated the game for the first 20 minutes then went on to lose 2-0!

On the brightside atleast I have a football team to follow.

Good result for Villa. Bournemouth should have taken their chances, but I won't complain about too much about the three points.

Great result for West Ham (Gary must be pleased!), and it humbled Arsenal somewhat. I know that it is only the first game of the season and they generally are rather rubbish but that's gotta be a swift kick to the crotch of the team that was building momentum in pre-season. I see the 'Wenger Out!' malrky has started already on Twitter. :rolleyes:

So Villa currently sit 4th in the league. Can we end the season now?

So West Brom's and Man City's first game of the season was yesterday (Monday).

I get it that TV dictates the moving of fixtures. I can allow games being moved to the Sunday. I'm willing to accept the thought process of games on a Monday (although I cannot accept the first game of the season for any team being on a Monday) and I understand the need for midweek games during the Christmas period when the fixtures get filled with cup games as well as the league but on Friday, Man Utd travel to Villa Park. Who the :Censored: watches football on a :Censored:ing Friday?

Rangers fan here (the good Rangers ;) ) My family from both sides have followed them pretty much all the way back to their formation.

Nice to have some positive stuff going on and off the park after 3 years of shambles. Long may it continue. 3 wins from 3 which used to be the norm but of late that's been a bit of a task.

I get to do gigs in Ibrox Stadium every once in a while too and get to sit out on the terrace with 50,000 empty seats which is always nice and is about as close as I was ever going to get to kicking a ball for them. :D :beer1:

My girlfriend is massively into it since she was a child she was on the front cover of one of there membership packs (or something like that) years ago haha and we have a signed Carlton Cole shirt in our hallway . I've not been into football but since meeting her she infected me. And like her I'm massively into it now. Cannot wait to go in the oylimpic stadium!

Also I feel like a part time supporter of Bournemouth, living here and all that!

Villa vs. Man Utd tonight.

I'm actually going to predict a 1-1 draw. Man Utd's backline and goalie didn't look that great against Spurs, and I think they may struggle against Gestede.

Saying that, Rooney scores against Villa for Poops and Giggles.

Oh no it doesn't work like that, their positions are irrelevant in fantasy football. I just need to pick players that will score points which are decided by BPL.
So you'd get 4 points for a clean sheet, 3 points for being their man of the match, 2 points for playing the full game. Then points for goals, lots of saves etc etc.

Man Utd beat Villa in what was a pretty poor game.

Sherwood took off Sinclair in favour of Gestede, which did make me scratch my head a bit. Sinclair and Amavi were linking up nicely on the left and were creating some nice crosses. Either Ayew or Agbonlahor should have been taken off for Gestede so that the crosses kept on coming and there was a big guy in the middle to get a head on them. After Sinclair was taken off, no crosses from Villa for the remainder of the game. For the last 20 minutes, both teams looked exhausted.

Sunderland look absolutely crap so far. As many have been saying, I think Advocaat is regretting postponing his retirement to stay on. Also, I agree with what many pundits and the like were saying; I think if Sunderland don't give him some money to invest before the window closes, then I think he could just hand in his resignation and leave them to their troubles.

both man utd games have left me wondering how they have gotten away with a win. Not a fan of the way they play anyway.

Anybody see the West ham game? Leicester did very well I must say but I think we were equal to it and we're on the wrong end of a couple of game changing bad referre decisions. Sakho was taken out by Schmeichel after he flicked the ball over his head. Red card and penalty I'd say. And right at the end after 10 mins of West Ham pummelling Leicester to try and equalise Adrian who has come up for a corner turns and try to kick to ball back into play unfortunately vardy was standing in the way and even though he didn't see him it's a red card??? Haha I doubt that will stand though. I thought you gave red cards for when I player was deliberately fouling!

Also I hear last night despite the new offside rule being a thing thus season they ignored it and let benteke goal stand against Bournemouth... Good way to introduce the new rule!

Aston Villa take on Birmingham City in the League Cup, and it's the perfect time for Blues to play Villa as they will have every chance to walk away with the win here.

Villa's stats are interesting this season though - over the league season so far, they've had more than 51% of the possession, a passing accuracy of nearly 80%, and averaging about 11 shots per game. So why are they currently sitting 17th in the league with four points, having won one, drawn one and lost four? I think it's tactical errors by Sherwood.

I said it during the Man Utd game that taking off Sinclair was a head scratcher. Sinclair and Amavi were linking up wonderfully on the left and were creating crosses that the forwards were not converting into goals. Instead of taking off a poor performing forward to bring on Gestede (who might just be tall enough to get on the end of those crosses...), Sinclair was taken off for Gestede and as soon as that happened, Villa had no crosses going into the box. The loss to Crystal Palace was down to a balls up by Amavi and Guzan, but taking off Sanchez who was playing so well was just...odd. After he was taken off, Palace owned the middle of the field. Dropping Grealish into the midfield wasn't going to fill that void - wrong type of player in the wrong position. They needed someone to boss the midfield and that is how Palace beat us.

Couple of weeks later against Leicester, similar tactical errors again. Villa are 2-0 up, off comes Gil because of a possible injury concern and instead of bringing a strong midfielder to boss the centre of the park, on come Ayew. Grealish is again dropped deeper with Ayew randomly moved out wide. The outcome of that? Leicester scoring three goals. Grealish did really well up until that tactical change.

Villa seems to start the matches just right, but then Sherwood's inexperience really starts to show when it comes to making substitutions. instead of changing the game in favour of Villa, it favours the opposition so tonight, Birmingham may (and probably will) beat Villa.

And at the other end of the table - West Ham are unbelievable this season :) I unfortunately was working and missed the Man City game but it seems Bilic is smashing all of the expectations and with the diversity of players who all seem to be playing quite well. I'm not sure what's gonna knock them... well probably Norwich haha!

We matched the very rare top flight win streak which Villa did in the 90's or so I kept being told ... Arsenel, Chelsea, Liverpool, City and United - was very close but United kept it a draw :(

Incorrect, and not just yesterday. There have been quite a few approaches for players over the month. The only one that looked likely to pay off fell through due to a work permit. The rest just didn't want to come to Villa, and who could blame them?

Like I said, I wouldn't be so sure we will win.
It's tough being an 'ammer sometimes (it has been anyway) so you kind of get used to the slip ups.

Still not convinced we'll finish Top 6. I said Top 8 at the start of the season and will be happy with that.

Another disappointing weekend for the Hammers because of referee decisions.
We sit in 6th position when we should be up there in 4th because of the 6 points we've had robbed off us over the past 3 games.
Red cards that shouldn't have been red cards and have been reversed and disallowed goals that should have clearly stood.

Outrageous to be honest yet nothing gets done about the referees.

Let's see. We've had 2 penalties given against us when the foul wasn't in the area. 1 of which 100% cost us the win. 1 incorrect red card which possibly cost us the win. Last match 2 disallowed goals 1 of which was 100% a goal no questions. Then there was man utds late equaliser which wouldn't have been given if they'd spotted the goalkeeper being fouled. So IMO the last 3 games we should have won instead of drawn and we shouldn't be replaying man utd on Wednesday.

I feel like I've finally calmed down after getting immensely wound up last night. I watched the WHU vs MU replay with a friend, a MU fan. A stubborn one (just like me) which was fun.

I honestly couldn't sleep, I was really wound up at how many fouls MU were making and not getting penalised for during the game. I couldn't believe the penalty wasn't given when Payet was shoved by a barely on his feet MU player after he'd just been wiped out trying to block off Antonio and it seems to commentators were agreeing "Anotino walks all over him" ... "No way a penalty". Maybe I've just gone insane with poor refferee descions. I couldn't believe the linesman had the nerve to rule our last goal offside. When vs Arsenal it was okay for Ozil to be offside because it was maginal "attackers advantage" but for us... nope!

The trouble is I know we didn't play consistently well but I feel the fact we had double the shots they did on and off target and they had nearly 3 times the fouls we did just really sums up West Ham at the moment.

Ahhh that's my rant over for now! Cannot believe how much it irritated me.

In other news, the deal has been disclosed for the new stadium. The bottom line is, the better West Ham do the more money the taxpayer gets which means every neutral like it or not should have an interest in West Ham being successful. West ham has to pay the following for qualifing for:

Champions League = £250k
Europa = £100k
Win FA Cup = £100k
Win Champions League = £1m
Win Premier League = £775k

And every Champions League, Europa, testimonial / extra matches are £100k each back into the taxpayers pocket.

ASTON Villa is now a rugby club after being demoted from football.

Defeat against Manchester United ensured Villa would be playing rugby next season, and the club confirmed that they will begin learning the rules of the sport with immediate effect.

Absolutely :Censored: ridiculous decision. RDM shouldn't have been appointed in the first place, but to be given just 12 games to rectify four or five years of regular management changes and poor player recruitment is an absolute :Censored: farce. What decent manager will come in knowing they get about 10 matches to make an impression? And we only lost 3 of those games. Drawing games isn't great but its at least a start.

5 managers in just over a year. Maybe it might click one day that the manager isn't the problem.

Whoever Villa bring in, I hope it's someone who is experienced and is able to make things efficient. Doesn't have to be exciting football, just someone who can grind results (ala Roy Hodgson's England). Steve Bruce will be fine. Big Sam maybe (never been a fan but he would do the job). Forget this concept of getting a manager who is young, hungry and an excellent prospect for the future. We need experience, efficiency and - dare I say it - boring.

The only exception I would accept for a young manager would be Ryan Giggs. If Villa take a punt on a young manager, I'd want it to be him. It's not likely (although the odds have been slashed recently), but I'd like to see his influence on the team. And maybe play himself before he puts Westwood on the pitch. :p

Big Sam would be a good fit in my opinion, he gets the job done, legal or illegal... haha!

In other news what on earth is going on with West Ham... some amazing skills and beautiful to watch some of the games but dire defending means we're likely to be relegated at this rate!
