I had one of my pet peeves on Saturday - security put the house lights on 5 minutes before the end totally ruining the atmosphere for the last song. I marched over and told him to turn them back down - he didn’t look as big as that from the other side of the room!!

I don't understand why venues do that. As soon as the last song dies, by all means switch on those house lights but until then, just :Censored: off. :mad:

I experienced one of my pet peeves on Sunday - organising a site visit at a Village Hall. When I asked the question whether I can pop in for five minutes for a quick nosey around, I was told no. Just a flat out no. Thankfully I managed to use the carrot and sweet talk the lady round, so I didn't need to resort to the stick but still!

I always make a comment over the mic if they do that to make them feel awkward about doing it ("I apologise. It wasn't me! Staff must be in a rush to go home. How very rude!")

I had that at one venue, 30 seconds left of the last song and I was doing an outro to an upbeat and lively song (can't remember which one) and they turned the lights on full blast (didn't fade them up but just full on whack). I gave them dangers and they turned it down and said sorry when I was packing up so I'm guessing they're just not thinking (or just want to go home as quickly as possible).

There's a village hall in Somerset where I used to live where, at 1145 precisely, the power to the stage sockets gets cut off. There is a sign to tell you this but no clock! So at 1145 (mind your watch isn't slow), no warning - phut! Sound off, lights off, that's all folks!

Caretaker emerges from his hovel and switches on the million watts of house lights and "suggests" that the public might like to leave by the main door.

He would prefer you to go too, but of course, wouldn't dream of telling you directly. Just a few humphs and lighhts gradually getting switched off as you go about your leisurely pack up.

Not unknown to be asked to remove all your gear to teh car park where of course you can pack up and load by the yellow glint of the street light as, naturally, he switches off the hall's outside light so he can go home.

Worse in my book is venues which insist you finish bang on time, and don't put the :Censored: house lights on. Punters happily sat drinking, chatting, or shouting for one more song, and I'm in total darkness packing up! :mad::mad:

Oh my, but I've had that! I thought it was an 11.45 finish, and pack up, but it was out by 11.45!! :eek: Half past ten, I'm unplugging in readiness, cos it's upstairs. Suddenly, leaving is a matter of urgency, staff are getting their bikes ready, and my kit's heading onto the pavement at a rate of knots!!

You're lucky - couple of weeks ago it was 10 mins before the end and my power and the dim lights went out across the venue ... the bar was still lit up.
Apparently there is a timer which turns all the lights off at a certain time and strictly speaking I should have finished the music 20 mins ago... nobody told me this! Luckily they could turn them back on.

I had a care taker at a village hall tell me a few years back to "Hurry up or I'll lock you in".
He was a right grump despite me being "Yes Sir, No Sir" to his questioning when he reluctantly let me look at the venue one evening (posh area).
He was a classic case of someone wanting the responsibility of being a key holder in their small community because it might mean something to them but in reality they want to do sod all.

This booking finished at 11.30pm. Place had to be cleared by Midnight. It was 11.45pm when he told me to hurry up and I wasn't far away from being cleared but every time he tutted and huffed and puffed, I did the same. When he said to me quite sternly "Hurry up young man otherwise I'll lock you in" I laughed at him and told him if he continued to try and rush me I would go slower and if he did lock me in he would have to explain that to the police and I'd also have to smash my way out and he could also explain to them why I was doing that. He soon shut up!

To me, these people are the same folk who work in management who complain about working in management and I always like to say the same thing to them: if you don't want to wear the crown of shot* and sit on the throne of wink*, then don't ask for the keys to the castle.

Had a soar looser from the rugby score manager try that with me a few weeks ago. Told me that the neighburs complaned about the noise and that even I should be out by end of 15 min drinking time. Told him straight that my T+C are 90 mins either way. He said thats between me and person whos party it is, I said well they should have made you aware when you were taking the cash of them for hiring the hall and if they didnt maybe you should have asked. Plus the law is on people drinking in the pub after 15 mins , not people working! His friend said England got beat of Wales that day and thats why he was being a dick. Ahh well.

I turned up for a wedding gig.
Put on my first record (vinyl in those days) and someone put the juke box on !
I soon drowned it out.
