Morning all,

I have an issue with my Alto Trusonic 18" active sub (as you can imagine from the title of this thread )

Its around 3 years old now, and appears to have lost the will to live at such a young age :(

When I first purchased it and began gigging with it, the sound coming from it could have shaken loose change from my old mans pockets! These days, its probably only producing half of that . . . and I need all the loose change I can get my hands on with this 5p Carrier Bag scandal!

I have it booked in with a technician chap later this week but just wondering if anybody else has had this problem or what it is likely to be? I'm not very clued up on this sort of thing unfortunatley.

If it's still working, but at reduced output, there's a good chance that you've either fried the voice coil or there's damage to the cone. Take the grill off and gently push the speaker cone in a few times and feel how much resistance there is to movement and if it travels smoothly. If it feels like it's grating against something, the voice coil will be partly melted. If it takes some force to make it move, you've really fried it :D Also have a look and check that all of the cone is still there!!! I've seen examples lately where bits have been completely destroyed!!

If the driver doesn't show any signs of wear, then it's going to be something dried up or shaken loose in the amp and/or pre-amp. Refer to an expert for repair there :)

The fault is either in speaker, mixer, cross over or amplifier.
You need to eliminate each to find the culprit.

If its an active crossover maybe a setting has got knocked ?
