Does a squirt of electronic cleaner, e.g. http://cpc.farnell.com/electrolube/eml200f/electrolube-contact-cleaner/dp/SAEML200F not help it any?

Failing that if it does need replaced, it should be fairly simple to find a replacement pot to stick in place of the old gain control.

I have a whole load of radio mics waiting to look at in my storage unit including I think some KAM 1935s - probably working ones

If you don't mind holding on a week or so I may be able to sort you replacement one of the same type

Having looked at the pics, it probably is that easy. It's probably a few screws and possibly a couple of clips to hold the plastic parts of the case together. Have you tried taking the screws out and seeing what happens?

If you're not confident trying that (and/or not confident with a soldering iron) then I'd seriously recommend taking it to someone who is? This unit shouldn't be hard to pull apart and repair.

KAM spares depot told me that they only supply new circuit boards:daft:

I should have also said that for someone who is confident, it should only be a 5-10min job.

Thanks Julian, 5 minute job despite the very weird volume control which I scrapped as I cant understand how it works or how to replace, just shorted the terminals with a soldered wire to maximum volume all the time.

Works fine, phew thats saved £100 or more:beer1:

The sort of thing i used to do on cars in the old days when you could actually repair a car yourself :daft:

Cant read as I am not on FB and judging by a recent unpleasant incident down at my usually friendly local pub which got posted on a local FB group and caused a massive problem sounds like im well out of it. :daft:

I really only buy secondhand from people on here where I have trust, excellent buys over many years and recently include Power Bars and Darrens old EVs.:beer1:

Ebay and everything else I avoid for secondhand.

If anyone else on here has a secondhand KAM Radio Mike or similar quality let me know,
