Many years ago I did a gig at Warcop army camp.
To about 200 soldiers there were 3 women there.
I had long hair in those days and wore a bright black and white jumper.
I was waiting at the bar when I felt a tap on my shoulder and this voice said "Fancy a dance love"
I turned around and said "No thanks mate"
He went very red faced and walked away.

Has to be a wedding earlier this year where I got the bride's name wrong :Embarassed:
To be fair, we'd joked about getting the names wrong during the consultation (it's a long story but I'd called her by the wrong name on an email a couple of weeks before whilst texting my wife during a band-break at another wedding). She said the guests would all laugh about it....and laugh they did (I just wanted to fall through the stage at the time).
I got an A1 testimonial from it though, and her maiden of honour who lives a couple of doors down the road from me still jokes about it....so can't have been all bad ;)

Oh blimey, I wondered when a topic like this would come up.
3 years ago I had 2 weddings over a weekend. The first one on a Friday was for 2 people that used to come to my Alternative nights. They actually met at one of them.
Their names were Dave and Laura. No problems there.
However, on the Saturday wedding their names were Dave and Lauren. I think I was trying far too hard concentrating on getting it right that I mucked it up and referred to the Bride as Laura when I announced the first dance. Luckily everyone saw the funny side, especially when I apologised and told them about the night before. For the rest of the night I referred to them as the Bride & Groom, just to be safe.
Another time I found myself getting embarrassed just as the first dance was happening.....
Posh venue, loads of guests crammed into the room and all around me. Some were behind the decks too. First dance song all arranged in the meeting beforehand (although I can't remember what it was at the moment). I do the announcement and the Bride & Groom make their way to the dance floor to a round of applause. The music starts and they just stand there looking confused and stare at me. One of the guests, I think it was the father of the Bride rushes over to me and everyone watches "What's this?" he asks...."It's the wrong song!".....I start burning up with embarrassment and can feel myself shrinking..."Are you sure?" I ask... The music is still playing and then all of a sudden everyone seems to recognise it at the same time. It's the RIGHT song, it just has a longer intro and it's not one they're used to. A massive sigh of relief sweeps the room and also myself too and there are a few giggles.
**Please note - I always ask about different versions of songs and wasn't told any different on that occasion**
Again, everybody saw the funny side but I just wanted to crawl into a corner and hide at the time.

Gary, I can almost echo two of yours. I introduced the happy couple with the bride's maiden name, as it was the one in my mind. Oops. :o
Recently, I got the happy couple on the dancefloor, fired up the first song, only for the groom to turn round and claim it was the wrong song. It was very worrying, as it was by the same band as the week before, and I was wondering if I'd got it wrong? Fortunately, the Bride and I were on the same page, but the poor groom was obviously expecting a different song.
Worst one for me though, was a Young Farmers one. Standard form is a dusty old barn, recently swept out, and lined with bales, so when I took the booking, I worked on that principle. Oh no. :( Fiftieth anniversary ball, marquee, posh frocks and suits. Except for the DJ in the corner in jeans and trainers. :o:o:o

First thing i thought about was this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9R36ohUJ88Y
I pronounced Reed as "Read" once which was embarrassing.
The worst one was years back when i bought a new laptop that was not as spec'd as the last one.
The loading was slower than playing and the song crashed, so had to play it off iTunes for the rest of the night. That was in 2008.
Bloody aweful situation. having said that she has just booked me for her mum and dads wedding anniversary this Saturday :)
I would not have seen that one coming. I must have made up for it for the rest of the evening. Quite hard not being able to mix though.

I was once handed a CD for the first dance just second before they wanted to do the dance (they got everybody in the room then gave me the CD) so already I was all rushed and on edge and the very nice standard old first dance track was playing (can't remember what) then it started breaking up as if my speakers had an issue. Everybody staring at me including B&G whilst I look frantically at everything that could possibly be causing this dreadful noise... oh wait it's a wind up, a few seconds later and it's one of those megamix silly dances haha ... good one  haha bet it was funny for everybody else though.

That reminds me of something else. Not embarrassing for me as such but for the father of the bride.
I was booked 6 years ago by some good friends of mine who were getting married. The brides father was and still is a part time DJ (he DJ's regularly at a local social club).
It was about 10 minutes before the first dance when he sauntered over and handed me a CD. "Can you play that straight after the first dance please as I want to dance with my daughter to it".....
"Er....I don't use CD's anymore" I replied! The look on his face said it all. He then went on to tell me that he DJ'd too and that he couldn't believe I didn't have any CD players.
I got straight to the point and told him that firstly, I'd had no pre-warning that it was going to happen otherwise I'd have made arrangements (he replied with "Well, it was supposed to be a surprise) and secondly, I had a little dig and said that being a professional I had to move with the times and make life as easy for myself as possible and that the majority of DJ's out there no longer used CD's as their main source.
Rather embarrassingly he ran around the venue delaying the first dance to the bride and grooms amazement and eventually found a CD player behind one of the bars.
Everyone was waiting for the first dance and he eventually came back into the room, asked me to plug it in and I placed it on top of one of my floor speakers.
The bride and groom weren't impressed and neither was I to be honest. They still speak about it sometimes when I see them.

How about a gay wedding, which I didn't know was a gay wedding until I saw the couple take to the floor for their first dance? I'd already been told their names & kind of assumed they were man & woman - Jo being not an unpopular female name ... something like Richard and Joe. It was definitely JOE anyway... so I did the intro as they took to the centre of the dancefloor (I was up in the Gods) and said...
"can you all please make a lot of noise for ADAM and... Er.. who's Adam? This isn't Adam & Steve.. that was last week!".. loads of laughs at my expense & I wanted to jump from that damn balcony to my death. I think the Adam & Steve recovery comment could've gone one of two ways but gladly it went the right way. Turned out to be a most uproarious night. Why Adam & Joe? I was a huge fan of A&J in the late 1990s.
Another time, I learned a valuable lesson - don't take a band's word for anything. I had the option of letting the band play the first dance over their (crap) PA but I asked what it was & was told. I had it, played it to the band guy in my headphones to make sure. Yup. That's the one... Had it all cued up, did the big up intro, hit play on the track... cue one very uncomfortable looking B&G. It was the wrong song. Nobody bothered to tell me when I could've done something about it but the B&G gave me daggers all night. I was livid with myself for not finding the B or G to ask personally.
I've slipped up with a name change since then, calling a bride by her (unbeknown to me) nickname. Stacey / Tracey.. any fule can get that wrong can't they? Again it got a huge laugh but I couldn't apologise enough. She wasn't phazed at all though & said people do it all the time. I made darn sure to get her name right for the rest of the evening, and how.

I have 2 very X Rated stories from DJing (both at an Alternative Club in Bournemouth in the mid-90's) but there's no way I can even tell them on a public forum!
(They were very 'nice' experiences though!)

And they did not think to tell you this? Do you have meetings in person or at least phone chats etc?
At least it looked real :)
I have seen a real proper balls up as a result of someone handing over a CD.
He was a very well respected DJ in my eyes, but due to a complete lack of communication ruined the 1st dance 3 times!!
I always play the track to the bride before the dance, ideally well before anyone is about after turn around etc.

Yellow Post-it note on the top of my mixer with Brides Name, Groom's Name, surname and first dance title, artist, CD, track all written in block capitals.
A quick glance down before any announcements made.
If I do get a CD given to me to play, I always preview it first to make sure that it plays and is suitable to be played.

Reminds me of possibly my worst which was a Wedding for TRANNIES.
They didn't tell me and judging by the room not a lot of the guests either.
We kicked off with a GAY Gordons---oh dear

I did a gig one night and the pub manager came over to me and said the stripper will be on soon.
I didn't know anything about a stripper when I was booked.
Similar thing happened at a local Army camp, a stripper appeared half way through the gig.

I was asked to play Daddy Cool by Boney M and was lucky enough to find I had a copy.
Any songs plays fine but then half way through one of the girls singers starts moaning like she is having an orgasm.
I had managed to get the uncensored version !
I had never played it before so didn't know it was like that.
I quite often get asked to play Gang bang by Black Lace. Its quite a good party track.

OH NO IT ISN'T!
I remember a certain DJ in his much younger days revelling in playing Lil' Louis' 'French Kiss' in its entirety back when it was out. At weddings!

Ah that reminds me of when I was still deep into my 'retirement' from DJing phase... I was wheeled out to do some DJing at a wedding of my wife's friend. It was my wife's birthday that day too and.. her mate had booked a male stripper for my wife as a surprise 'thankyou' for helping arrange things. Good job we were both good sports about it.
Oh yeah, and that was the wedding reception where everybody was invited to go in beach style fancy dress. Except we were about the only 2 guests who showed up not suited & booted. Can you imagine, at a very fancy hotel in deepest Cheshire, and I'm dressed in brightly coloured beach attire? A wedding in the next room was completely gowned & tuxedoed up & the place shared a bar between the function rooms. Talk about feeling like a fish out of water. Jees.
Anyhoo... I got talking to said stripper at the bar later & it turned out he lived on the same street as my parents some 150 miles away

It's a stunning track, I love it. It does only work well at certain functions, though. ;)

Back in the 80s more or less EVERY birthday party had a stripagram arrive.
