I ordered a replacement speaker part on ebay. The item arrived and didn't work. I contact the seller to arrange returning it, they stated they can't offer a refund or replacement until they get the original part back. Absolutely no problem with that at all. So I go ahead and just order another new one from the seller as I needed the part quickly, and figure when I get around to sending the other one back we can sort out a refund or another replacement at that time.

The estimated delivery date came and gone. I contact the seller via eBay. Their response: "we haven't received the faulty item back so we cant issue a replacement". I clarify, that I understand that, and that my query isn't relating to the earlier faulty item, but a completely new order which I placed as I knew there would be a delay in sorting out the other issue.

I'm told, "sorry, we are holding onto off sending you your new item until you have sent the replacement and that case has been dealt with". At this stage I got fed up faffing about with the ebay contact seller facility (and the delays in responses). So after much digging around I managed to find a telephone number for the seller. I don;t think they've had much way of training in dealing with an angry Scotsman, lol. Within 2 minutes of ending the call they had issued me a refund in full.

Idiots in business :rolleyes:

Another one, today too.

Very nice venue calls, want to book me for a festive party, the original DJ has cancelled on them.

The date is free and I'm about to give them my price when they state "we can only pay £xxx" I let them know that unfortunately my price for the evening would be £xxx. "How much?!" was the reply. "The other DJ only wanted £xxx!".

"The other DJ has proved his unreliability though, did he provide a contract for the evening?" I already knew he answer.

"I'll speak to my manager and get back to you today".

No call though. He Hoy, you win some you lose some. Sometimes the cheapest option isn't the best.

We cant consider anything less than a few days beforehand as experience tells us we are wasting our time.

I was never going to get the booking, my price was three times what they wanted to pay. They've maybe used lower priced DJs for their party nights for years with no problem. So when faced with a fee they never expected they probably ruled me out despite the benefits I offer.

His story, for those that weren't around then, was this. He got an enquiry off a woman who had been let down by her chosen DJ at the last minute. She asked him for a quote and he told her £xxx. She then gave the usual shock! horror! reaction and said "well, my DJ was only charging £xx (about £50 I think), can you not match him?". Danno replied "Sure. I'll quote you £xx and I won't turn up, either!". Pure genius! :)

I ordered a computer for my Mum a while back (ebay), worked perfectly for a couple of weeks and then one day it was saying it was not genuine version of windows.
Send them a message and they send back a list of 10 different codes saying "these are the codes for this batch of computers one of them will work" ... Mum gives them a go and one of them works... for a few days - the seller no doubt then had a breakdown with probably 10 customers complaining why he'd sold them a dodgy code!

I'm not certain but I had a good guess that if you use the same code of 2 PCs at the same time it'll invalidate it so giving out all the codes to everybody wasn't very wise.

What most of us can't understand is how people calculate OUR costs--how can they say our budget is x unless they understand all the overheads involved.

I often get people saying well old xxxxx did our Barn Dance last year for x ( about a third of our price as per Shaun's recent experience) so I say well book him then I would !!!!!

Ah he's booked already---well in that case his price is not relevant is it?

They never get their heads round it as Shaun says.

It never enters the tiny brain of these people that if they got let down by £100 quid Sid , trying to get another £100 disco might also do the same:daft::daft:

That old motivational sales principle--if you keep doing the same thing you get the same results.

These days I am extremely suspicious of cheap quotes for anything that is a service and important.

I wonder if George Osborns hiked minimum wage idea will help.

By the way--anyone offering to do a Disco on Black Friday for a FIVER.
