View Full Version : ELECTRICAL INTERFERENCE

Here's an interesting one, my sons Rodeo Bull is a bit of a beast--it pulls a lot of power on starting each ride ---something like the equivalent of two washing machine motors.

We have had problems in some venues, mainly old Village Halls where there is a noise across either my sons own PA or that of the DJ, Caller or Band being used as soon as the ride starts, obviously a big pull on the electrical circuit.

It can be got round by using a separate circuit but sometimes it's not possible to do that--last booking my son did was typical--Village Hall.

Is there something out there that can filter out this interference?

Any suggestions welcomed and appreciated, often of course the Hall owners blame us, but we know a lot of the older electrical installations are far from perfect.

Incidentally all kit PAT tested every year and new Active PA speakers in the Summer.

Thanks

Battery powered active speakers?

Gennie for the bull?

Nothing short of a generator as Steve wisely said... or an AC line stabiliser or a UPS (2KVA should do) - and you'll need one with enough capacity to supply your disco rig.

Yes 2 wise ones from Steve as usual😄

Sadly already spent available budget on mains powered speakers--but how long can battery ones last?

Often there are lengthy gigs, all afternoon/ evening in the Summer.

Generator is good logic, but not realistic unless big outside Summer jobs to boost power requirements, lot of work indoors and we just want to plug in and play.

This is not a continual problem so something as a plug in solution when required would be good--how does UPS work in terms of connecting to mains circuits and the equipment?

Bearing in mind two sets of equipment ie Rodeo Bull and the Disco Equipment.

This is in the extreme case where we can't get them on separate circuits.

Many thanks so far,

I may well be talking out of my :Censored: but I seem to remember many years ago fitting (delta?) suppressors directly to electric motors to prevent interference, could this be a solution ?

I don't know enough about them to say for sure, but what about something like this?

Could be, but I suspect they already have suppressors fitted so it'd be a case of beefing them up.

Putting the PA & playout on a UPS might work out to be easier. Plug the UPS into the mains, then plug a multiway outlet into the output of the UPS. Should be pretty much job done.
