I had a client meeting yesterday, with a lovely young couple, nothing unusual there. What was unusual was the research that had been done. It was as if they'd been reading this forum for a month!
I got the usual PLI question first of all, and then off we headed into areas I don't get asked about enough.

" Do you have backup equipment " ?
They'd been at a recent gig where after a laptop crash, the festivities stopped for a long time, as it was the only playout system.

" What will you do if nobody gets up to dance? How will you interact with the crowd" ?
I'll head round with my trusty cattle prod, and herd the blighters onto the floor. :) Tempting, but I mentioned that I'm happy to put request slips on the tables, and they said they already decided to ask me to do this.

" Will you make announcements as requested" ?
No, I'll have my head down over the decks, mixing up a storm. :D To my credit, I didn't ask them if bears lived in the woods, I just made it clear I'd be more than happy to do so.

" Will you bring advertising material" ?
Such as a couple of seven feet tall roll up banners. No, but I'll have my cards in my pocket.

And one of the best was:
" What's your policy with regards to Cigarettes and Alcohol " ?
Well I'll play it if asked, but I normally play She's Electric. ;);) Don't smoke, and don't usually have a drink at gigs.

A really switched on couple, a pleasure to chat to, they asked if I was happy to play Macarena et al ( and I still didn't question the bears' residential status ), so as you can guess, I'm looking forward to this one, for many reasons.

If only they were all like that.............................................. .........

Don't know if there has been an article in a Brides or wedding magazine recently but 3 times since the New Year at client meetings I have been asked if they can come and watch me perform?

Bit personal!! whoops

These are the stock questions that appear in nearly every wedding forum, blog and magazine article (and have been over the last few years).

It actually makes selling yourself a bit easier as they give you a good starting point for discussing how you work with your clients.

On the first disco I worked on they had the name of the disco and telephone number in large letters on the front panel.

On one of the speakers they had an advert for trainee DJ's.

Back in the 80's it was the norm to have the name and number of your disco in black vinyl letters on the front of the light screens (I did it)

Today somehow....it seems tacky

Isn't it good that some people are paying attention? A customer with realistic expectations. What a dream!

Indeed it does. Makes it a two way street, instead of a monologue by an egocentric showoff. :)

Had the same kind of thing a week or so ago and at first I thought "Eh? that's a bit...." but then I realised it gave me the chance to give some in depth answers.
I'd rather they'd call em or given me a number so I could call them back but I replied and then got an email and all of their details as they wanted to book me.

Unfortunately, someone else got in there first.
