View Full Version : Mounting a moving head to a t-bar

Hi guys
Just purchased my first moving head.
It's not small - comes in at 9kg, so I want to ensure I'm mounting this properly on to the T bar.
My biggest concern is the attachment to the mounting bracket on the moving head... the holes seem quite big - yet most g-clamps seem to have quite small nuts.
What do you use to mount your moving heads upside down?
Thanks

All my clamps have M10 bolts/Wingnuts. Fairly big in my book.

Bear with me here Benny, but how does that attach to the fixture? I can't see how you can fasten a wingnut to a fixture without a bracket. Or do the moving heads have a bracket on the bottom?
I know naff all about moving heads, as you may have gathered. :daft:

Will that clamp nice and tight to a square t-bar (isn't it designed for truss?)

Indeed they do (or, at least, I'm yet to see a mover that doesn't!).

A square t-bar? I wouldn't like to say. If clamped on tight enough then maybe, but it's not designed for it.
Apologies, I didn't know your t-bar was square - mines cylindrical, so those clamps work on both my trussing and t-bar.

Sounds like it's best to go cylindrical - the clamps for trussing look far more sturdy.
On your t-bar, how do you attach the safety wire so that it's secure and doesn't slide off the end of the bar (should the clamp fail)?

My t-bar is black, so I use black cable ties to stop the safety wire sliding about.

Hi, you dont say what type or make your moving head is does it come with bracket one or two which are normally removable, the head is quite light the ones i use are 25 kg and mount them with a truss clamp designed for 50 mm round tube should be pretty safe but do not forget the safety wire.

It's 9kg, and comes with a removable bracket.
I like the idea of having 2 x clamps to ensure it doesn't move around (more stable than 1)
It's the Intimidator Trio.

A second clamp on each mover wouldn't make much of a difference. It'll be the bracket that goes before the clamp anyway (and even then, the brackets are built to hold).
I like the Trio. :beer1:

I found with one clamp, it "twists" on its clamp, where as two would keep it in check!

i use, and swear by these - http://www.thomann.de/gb/manfrotto_035264_super_clamp_pack.htm?ref=prod_rel _144444_4 with a safety wire for good measure.

It's a shame they have a M10 thread - if it were M12 I could connect it directly in to the base unit.
