ADJ Ricochet 20W laser scanner

Anyone got one or more of these 20W Laser Simulators?

On paper they look good, 4 degree beam and over 10000lux at 5m http://justaguyandsomecommonsense.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/adj-ricochet-20-watt-led-not-enough.html

But the videos on youtube don't seem able to keep up with the high scan rate on the simulated laser effect (you can actually see frame refresh lines across the video) and my local disco shop ain't got any so I can see one for myelf :daft:

Could anyone here say from personal experience if they are actually as bright and dramatic as they seem

They had at least one at BPM last year Rich. Couldn't see a thing they were doing then either. Another a-meh-rican dj product IMHO.

I noticed they have them at BPM but I never saw one when I was there.... having said that there were a lot of flashing lights around

Are you saying you saw it and were underwelmed?

It seems to be a small brother of this one

Most of the 'DJ' lighting I saw at BPM (or struggled to make out) was utterly washed out by the ambient lighting, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Get a demo in person before deciding, I'd say. Aside from that everything I've seen about the mirror movement tells me they're never going to be as good as a laser in terms of speed. Laser galvos can go like the clappers because they only have to deflect a small mass a teensy amount. On the plus side, it's not a laser light source, so there are no restrictions about crowd scanning to worry about.

I keep thinking about how much I miss my old projector & its flat beam effect wheels (love that kind of effect). Could a mover with rotating gobos do the same? I'd be willing to give a couple a go ;)
