hi all i am looking at 2x HH Electronics Bass bins and 2x Calrsbro tops and mixer amp and cables for £100 . are these good speakers and is this a good price. thanks.

Just to add some perspective to this, my sound system of two 12 inch tops and two 15 inch subs cost more than £3,000.

You can go for a budget system like Alto, where you can get two tops and two subs for just under £1,500. Shop around the second hand market and you'll get a better deal. But even a single speaker for a hundred quid would make me run away, let alone an entire sound system.

To be honest, the speakers you've listed are not great and for £100, my assumption is that they are now considerably less than great. Have a listen to them first and see what you think.

I would buy them anyway. Resell at £50 per item on fleabay (or gumtree) and voila! £150 extra to go towards your sound. Every little helps!:beer1:

Bear in mind that the carlsbro tops will beat least 10 yrs old as they went bust in 2006. You will not know how hard they have been driven over the last 10 years either.
That said it is a very good price. What model carlsbro tops are they though as the cheaper alpha (at) ones were also available with a prosound badge which gives you some indication of quality.

And this is relevant why? The OP is on a very limited budget, and while I'm sure he'd like to be in a position to buy one like yours, he isn't.

Your point that it's well worth buying quality is absolutely correct, but there's always a trade off to be made between budget and quality.

While all that is absolutely correct, and good advice, assuming the kit all actually works, and makes a pleasing sound, £100 for a system that's not the worst in the world* is well worth considering.

Have a listen, and if it sounds passable, the choice is yours.

* And by the same token, it's a long, long way from being the best. A long, long way. ;)

In no way, shape or form was I suggesting that the OP should spend as much as I did. I was merely adding some perspective on the price, and what that could mean. I would offer the same opinion should somebody say to me "Is £100 a good price for a car?" That's why my response is relevant. I also offered an alternative idea by suggesting the Altos via the second hand market.

Alas, I have zero knowledge of the OP's budget. I see no suggestion of it in his post and whilst it may have been mentioned on the forum at a different time in another thread, I can't be expected to remember that.

Here's a tip which many on the forum may not know. If you click on a member name, an option will come up " view forum posts". The most recent posts will be shown. Since young Aaron ( you can find this the same way in " View profile ". ) has only made five posts, all asking questions in the same vein, it's possible to view the post in which he states his budget to be £150 to £175, so even the Altos are way above that, sadly.

Back in THAT day H and H were a really good brand, so the subs may well sound acceptable even now.

I have the HH MA100 PA amp which is from the 70s and still sounds very acceptable for low key events like village Fete or lower volume events.

Not sure about Carlsboro.

Let's face it for a beginner DJ covering possibly low paid bookings at Charity Events and Social Clubs this system may well be adequate to the less discerning ears.

The crunch is what it sounds like and also whether the cabinets are badly damaged--mind you it's dark when the lights go out

If it fires up and works at Disco Volume WITHOUT HISS RATTLING OR DISTORTION then it's got to be a bargain, just buy a cheap back up amp as that's the only possible worry--if a speaker goes I doubt anyone will notice.

For any high volume gigs or in quality venues probably give it a miss but for basic start up subject to its sound test this sounds a BUY.

It sounds like some of the older stuff I have for sale here--you can only get peanuts ( if anyone will take it)
