I picked up some backup JBL speakers and an AMP.
The amp has Speakon on the rear and the speakers have Speakon and 1/4 Jack inputs.

Is there any difference in quality as i am imagining they are the same?

Yes and no. :)

No, there's no real difference.
Yes, Speakon are more secure, Industry Standard on Pro kit, and technically they're rated to a higher power handling, so given a choice, Speakon all the way.

The main thing to note about Speakon connectors is that they're locking, and won't short anything when they're inserted or removed like a jack plug can.

Many years ago I did a gig and tripped over one of my speaker leads with jack plugs.
The lead came out of the speaker and must have shorted on the way out.
Luckily it just blew the output fuse on the amp and didn't blow the output transistors.
I replaced the fuse and carried on.
