Following from this thread (http://www.mobilediscodirectory.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?p=75390#post75390) What are your top tracks of the genre? (please only list tracks that are proven to actually work in a mobile disco situation & not just because they are of a certain genre. Also must be suitable for all ages)

It doesn't matter if you post a track that somebody else has, the idea is to find good useable tracks of the genre that are proven to work for mobile DJs

Please Stick to the specific genre in the thread title

Make the lists as long as you like as long as they are useable

As this is off thread--ill carry on with my favourite subject:D

60s music and no Stones, Beatles or Beach Boys?

They were the giant supergroups of the 60s--

Please don't take the Top 10(ish) threads off topic. I don't want to have to wade through irrelevant stuff when I collate the lists.

Neither do I want to start deleting off topic posts to save myself bother later when I start this task.

These work for me:

Aretha Franklin - Respect
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - Ain't No Mountain High Enough (possibly my 2nd favourite song of all time)
Ray Charles - Shake A Tail Feather
Sam & Dave - Soul Man
Stevie Wonder - Uptight
Stevie Wonder - Signed, Sealed, Delivered
Jackson 5 - I Want You Back
Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Tears of a Clown
Sly & The Family Stone - Dance to the Music

And the 10th? When playing a 60s soul set I always include my all time favourite song and it has always gone down very well: Marlena Shaw - California Soul

Funny isn't it, the number of people who have listed Ray Charles 'Shake a Tail Feather' and I couldn't figure out why I didn't have it in my reasonably extensive Ray Charles back catalogue (65 tracks)?

Thanks to Wiki for pointing me to the Blues Brothers soundtrack, which I do, of course, have. Best actually put Mr Charles on the tag (as I'd already done for Ms. Franklin's performance of 'Think' on the same soundtrack).

Booker T & the MGs 'Green Onions'

Even funnier when you actually read the thread title & note the bit that says 60s.

James & Bobby Purify did the version that qualifies for this thread

Beauty Is Only Skin Deep - Temptations
Behind A Painted Smile - Isley Bros
Jimmy Mack - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas
Needle In A Haystack - The Velvelettes
Roadrunner - Jr Walker & the Allstars
Soul Man - Sam & Dave
Soul Finger - Bar-Kays
Ain't Nothing But a Houseparty - The Showstoppers
Build Me Up Buttercup - Foundations
Mony Mony - Tommy James & the Shondells

Everyone a winner, I think you should do a top 50 for this genre, there's just too much good stuff to only choose 10.

Fair enough, but I'd probably treat it the same way as I treat Aretha's rendition of 'Think' or Cab Calloway's 'Minnie the Moocher' from the Blues Brothers soundtrack and use it for preference unless specifically playing a 60s do.

Aaanway, back to topic...

...and even more funny when the first posts states

good useable tracks of the genre that are proven to work for mobile DJs

which you probably couldn't say about the James and Bobby Purify version as not many would have heard of it.

Mony Mony - Tommy James & the Shondells

60s soul - are you sure?

Until very recently, I used their version as a preference over BB/RC. Always went down well.

60s soul - are you sure?

My mistake  it's certainly not soul, it is 60's though, and goes down a storm alongside the soul/northern soul/motown hits of the era, especially ghost in my house, houseparty etc.
