Home Made Moving Head Stands - 10 Minute Job!

I mentioned the other day that I was looking for a bracket for the X Moves. Thanks to those that made suggestions.
I decided to take a look on YouTube at some DIY stands and here's the result.
It literally took 10 minutes to put together once I'd bought the bits and they were cheap.

2 x top hat adaptors from Maplins - £1.99 each. Free delivery.
1 packet of 6 x 25mm wood screws from B&Q - £2.39
1 Black shelf from B&Q cut into 2 x 9" x 9" pieces - £6.00
1 small reel of velcro - £2.49

Total - £12.87

I've tested it (bumped into them so they nearly fell over) and the units don't move at all so I am confident that they will be ok.

**Obviously the power cables will be tidied up so you can't see them!**

This is similar to my solution for a pair of pocket spots the only difference is I attached the top hat adapters directly to the spots so I don't need the shelves and they won't fall off by accident.

Looks good. I've got a pair of those too, so if I may sir (before you patent the design)....... I've also already got one top hat adaptor and a roll of velcro, so mine will be even cheaper!! :p

Nice and neat. Your maths was wrong though...

I'm always interested in alternative ways of mounting lights as a lot of my work involves hanging kit on truss in the roofs of marquees etc but I struggle a little on getting neat but small set ups done and this would be an alternative to putting movers on truss sticks.

I'm lucky as I've got a tame fabricating company almost next to my new unit, so I could get them to make me any adaptor plates etc that I needed to modify the shelf/velcro part of your design to a solid fix.

I assume it's 'cos your total spend was off by a couple of quid.

Quite frankly, I think you should be sin binned just for that. :p

I just can't believe that I even considered checking it! You'd only counted one of the top hats rather than both.

Still under £15.00 for a decent solution though! Not bad eh?
Even if you need to get some speaker stands it is still a very cheap solution and one that works well.

I am in a venue tomorrow with limited space and the ceiling height is stupidly low.
I attached the adaptors to my Ultimax uprights this morning as a test and although the uprights are slightly thinner than the speaker stands, they tighten up well so I will be using those tomorrow.
