Recommendations for speaker stands please.

I've been thinking for a while I needed some better, smarter ones, and now that one of my main pair has just suffered terminal failure, I need some for this weekend. I have some cheap ones which aren't suitable for the larger cabs, so I'd like recommendations for some good quality ones.

Note: I didn't ask for links to diamond encrusted Swarovski stands, or electrically operated winch ones and the like, simply reasonably priced attractive sturdy ones. Thanks.

I have used these for years as they are strong and very small/lightweight.
Might not be man enough especially for a couple of large actives though??

For the cost I tend to replace them every 2 years and have a number of back up ones for other uses.
They fit nice and snug in my equipment box.

I purchased a pair of THESE (http://www.thomann.de/gb/millenium_bs2222_pro_set.htm) from our Teutonic friends around 2 years ago to use with the heavier speakers, and to date they have exceeded expectations. Here's the feedback I left on their site regarding the stands. Predictably, the bag didn't last very long, but Thomann replaced it for me under their 3 year guarantee, they are certainly worth considering.

These speaker stands are well made and very sturdy, being made of steel they are heavier than the average stand, but they do have a considerably higher load rating which is needed by those of us using 15" actives. The stands are pneumatically damped which really helps when using the heavier speakers and is an unusual refinement to find on stands at this price level. Another advantage is you don't have to fiddle with getting the locking pins in whilst holding the speakers up, thanks to the innovative locking mechanism. As others have mentioned the bag is rather flimsy and will probably not last very long BUT, they still represent outstanding value for money even if there was no bag provided. They most certainly deserve the 10/10 rating from me, and you won't find anything better for your money.

As you know I have the UL15s so theres only one stand for me now--ULTIMATES with the hydraulic action---very expensive but very good and great for getting speakers high if needed.

Look away now Peter over £100 each.

I see STAGG mentioned. Look useful might be more in your budget..

I used to fly the Peaveys with Stagg metal stands for a good 5years no worries but am not sure the latest versions are so robust.

i heard a muttering that they are now made cheaply (and not as strong as the older version I had)-- in China and badged by Stagg.

Agreed that the Ultimate stands are the "ones". They offer a lifetime warranty and every part of it is replaceable.

Long term, they are probably the cheapest option...

The stands I have seen in Maplins look like a good push from a drunk would take them out for good.

Having had a chat with someone, he points out that Thomann usually deliver within the week, so I've gone with these. Thank you Pe7e. And thank you one and all for your advice, to be honest, they all fitted the bill.

Not really tall enough for lights - the only one I've found tall enough is the Ultimate Support TS-110B

Those stands you've chosen look alright!

I personally have a pair of ultimate telelock ones (cannot remember the name). They're so well made compared to other brands I doubt they'll ever break. I'm a bit of a cheapskate sometimes, but honestly they are excellent and worth the rather high price tag.

Funny....not one mention for K&M stands. Used internationally by the World's top stage management teams, not always expensive but always 100% reliable and with replacement parts for virtually every product they make.
Buying cheap and buying twice is not something I'm keen on, so I use all K&M stuff. My speaker stands are over ten years old and still safely support my 30kg speakers.

My bin weighs 26 or so.. no way would I want to be lifting that sucker onto a stand on a regular basis. Also, likely no way am I going to buy a 40+ kg sub.

No but I wouldnt be inclined to put a 30 kilo top on a stand either.

I have not had any problems providing you have serious QUALITY stands-- dont see a problem with my 27kg Peavey--over the years I have used Stagg (solid old steel type) and now ULTIMATE which are very strong and have a large footprint to help with stability.

Clearly you need to be very careful choosing suitable strength stands--it doesnt come cheap.
