Hi all,

My name is Dean and I run MK Mobile Disco, based in Milton Keynes (not the most imaginative of names I know, but went for something that's going to get hits on search engines).

Been running the company for over a year now, but have been DJing for over 15 years - originally spinning house and garage (still do on the local club scene, as well as some decent gigs in the past at Ministry of Sound in London, Rainbow Venues in Birmingham and I also won a DJ competition a few years back which was hosted by Intel and DJ mag).

Business is starting to really pick up, primarily through word of mouth and a bit of facebook advertising.

Equipment I currently use:

Pioneer XDJ-RX
Two EV-ZLX12Ps
Gorilla DJ Booth with the Equinox LED cloth
2x ADJ Inno Pocket Spots
1x ACME InvincibLED
Also a cheap S2L spot thing
WiFLY NE1 DMX controller

The booth LED and Pocket Spots are new additions, along with the DMX controller.

Having to send the EVs back under warranty as having some issues with them, firstly, a heavy buzzing sound out of the back of both of them and also one is considerably quieter than the other.

Am considering upgrading to some 15s as I find that I push the 12s too much and would rather have a bit of headroom to play with.

Was considering getting one 18" sub to go with the 12s but two 15s might be a bit easier on my back and pocket.

Hi Dean,

Personally I think adding a sub, at least 15", to your 12" tops is better than going to 15s. You can do without the sub for smaller gigs and add it for the larger ones. 15" tops can be heavy, awkward buggers.

Hi Dean, welcome, we are based near Kettering up the M!:D although working in different markets these days.

Im using an Alto 15inch sub which adds a welcome bit of bass thump to my 15 inch Peavey Speaker set ups.

Apparently Yamaha subs and tops are loud --depends on your budget and how much noise is needed.

My son has the 12inch Alto tops which sound ok to me so using the 15 inch version would be reasonable I think, however as Peter always says-- USE YOUR EARS.

Dont buy without listening.

I shop in Northampton at Fabtronic who are always happy to allow a sound test for this kind of kit.

Best of luck with speakers, im very surprised at EV speaker problems, unless they were secondhand?

@CrazyK Thanks for the advice, I've never been to Fabtronic before, will definitely go and check them out as I normally got to Decks in North London which is a bit of a trek!
