Hi Guys

What are the most annoying questions people come with when you are trying to give a great evenings entertainment...here's one "WHAT SONGS HAVE YOU GOT???" I mean this happens so many times.

Hi Charlie, I've edited the topic title to correspond with the content of this thread. :)

Most annoying questions..hmmm?

FILLED DANCEFLOOR
them~ "Play something we can dance to"
me ~ *looks toward the floor baffled at their comments*

"when are you going to play something decent???"

"Well my friend, what would you call decent?"

"Anything other than what you are playing now"

"It's a wedding reception, and look there are 200 people dancing"

"Yeh, but I am a DJ and they dont like this"

"Oh right, a fellow DJ eh!!, busy are you?"

"yes mate, fully booked"

"If you are that busy, how come you are here??"

Nuff said.

Best regards all

What songs do you have? is right up there.

'Please bear with me mate while I spend the next few hours reciting 10,000 songs. That will be a fun night for you.'

Can you play something we can dance to?

'All music can be danced to, including the song currently playing. If you take a look over your shoulder at the dancefloor you will see lots of people dancing'

Can you play something with a beat?

'Can you tell me a song that DOESN'T have a beat?'

Can you play <insert requester's favourite inappropriate song> - EVERYONE will dance to it?

'Wow. In the short time you have been here you have single handedly went round the entire room, and did a poll to see their opinion on said song. Well done. Show me the results, i'll play the song'. (This one has backfired - well, not really - in that a few people have, after getting this response, went round the room and took a survey of their opinions of the song. When they showed their case for the playing, naturally i obliged and played it.

Maybe they're a friend or relative of the B & G? Strange concept for a guest at a wedding I know, but.......

Admittedly, if you have a packed dancefloor & another "DJ" tells you that your audience don't like the music it can be annoying & the chances are they are a bedroom DJ & don't know anything about anything other than D&B or somesuch other genre that is totally unuseable in the Mobile situation.

If a friend or family member is getting married I would much sooner go as a guest than an "employee" Why should every DJ that attends a wedding as a guest be rubbish?

They might just be somebody new to the business who wants a chat & maybe to pick up a few tips, or they might just want to drool over your kit to see what the real pros use:) Sorry if this seems like a rant but how many times do you see a variant of this conversation posted up on the various forums? Don't forget DJs have social lives too (admittedly notparticularly active ones but.....)

Anyway Gary, I wouldn't have thought there was much demand for wedding receptions in your specialist area? :D

Charlie, one of my favourite annoying questions is "Can I have a look through your CDs?" It really is one that you just want to reply NO! now go away & leave me alone!

Why? They might want to talk shop? I can't fathom why so many so called professional DJs have a problem with other DJs being at their gigs

I used to work in a pub, if another barman came in (& there are alot of pubs near the one I worked & a lot of their staff drink in the one I worked in) should I have refused them service or treated them with contempt because they were in th same trade as me?

My favourite is when someone asks you if you've finished when there's no music on and hasn't been for at least 5 minutes and you're coiling up leads and some muppet comes up and says "Have you finished"?

Agh......................................

The the old farts who sit in the seats beside the speaker even if the other 500 seats are empty and then ask "can you turn it down?"

 agggghhhhhhhhhhhh:bang:  :bang:  :bang:

The asthma sufferers who ask "can you turn the smoke off it's choking me?" then they go and sit among the smokers at their table

 :bang:  :bang:

Then the most annoying question I was ever asked by a client at a gig on a bank holiday weekend "who do I make the cheque out to?"

 :bang:  :bang:

How about when the one of bridesmaids asks you for a track and, when you haven't palyed it within 2 minutes, says it the Bride's favourite and WANTS IT NOW !!! :bang:

The thing is, you know the Brdie has specifically asked for it NOT to be played !!

I hate it when a spotty teen comes up at a wedding "Oi Geezer gis a go at beat boxing now"
(No thank you sonny, i dont want my mike full of spit)

At a wedding or 50/60th birthday "Oi my mate wants to mc for a bit now"
(no problem sonny, just tell him to set up his rig next to mine)

When they stand loking at all my cd boxes and ask "what cds you got"
(I reply "only now 34" ) they seem to look very puzzled and walk away:rolleyes:

all the best
Tony

Charlie, one of my favourite annoying questions is "Can I have a look through your CDs?" It really is one that you just want to reply NO! now go away & leave me alone!

As we use a laptop, my reply is "Certainly, son, when would you like to come to my house to look at them? I'll make you an appointment.)

As for "Can I use your mic/ sing?", ......... I lie blatently and explain you cannot use mic to talk over, it is a dj system and it is set to cut the music on cue. They go away, without realising I have been talking over all evening, giving requests and messages.
