New Hazer required (I think)

OK - I'm lucky....several of the venues I visit regularly allow, indeed encourage haze :)

But I have a problem. I have a KAM hazer at the moment and noticed last night that it keeps cutting out. It's not a blocked pump (I've checked that). It just stops putting out the wonderful foggy stuff and it's easily rectified by turning off the timer/continuous haze buttons (depending on how I'm using it) on the remote for a couple of minutes and then turning them back on....it's almost like the heater's cutting out for some reason. But that's a pain in the backside. It's also VERY fiddly on the outputs to get the correct amounts of haze when it IS playing nicely.

So - without completely bankrupting me, what's out there at the moment? (and I really DON'T mean something like LeMaitre!).

I literally want a nice, fine haze to show the beams up without it looking like the venue's on fire, and something that doesn't necessarily need a timer, but will output a fine haze continuously for the evening without me having to press buttons. Oil or water based isn't a problem - I'm in places that have sensibly zoned their fire detection equipment or don't actually have it in the first place :)

To be honest, I toyed with a number of so-called hazers a few years back....all of which clogged up/went rusty/refused to work, so I bit the bullet and bought a Look Unique 2.1. Luckily I found a second hand one on eBay, otherwise they are quite expensive...but worth every single penny. Very economical with the fluid (even on a denser haze setting all night) and a great self-cleaning programme as part of the cool down. A very sound investment.

I'm quite happy with my QTX FH hazer/fogger. Cost me 120 quids from CumbriaDJStore (delivered). It isn't half a BEAST though. Big & heavy but also capable of delivering a high output & filling large spaces quickly.

Your stumbling block is wanting a fine haze, most of the cheaper ones are basically smoke machines with a fan lumped on them.

I searched, and wasted £££, for years before finally stumping up for a look unique. Not cheap, but worth it in the long run, especially if you are using it regularly.

For what it's worth I had a Le Maitre Neutron hazer in for repair last week. It seems to be a great machine for hazing & is easily the most servicable machine I've ever seen. The heater assembly is a stainless steel tube & is straight so is much less prone to clogging. That & the fact the heating is done by passing a large current through the tube directly means there's much less to go wrong. They're also not very cheap but likely a really good buy.

As for the repair... The thermocouple had come apart. It was literally a ten minute repair job.

The ones Thomann do are one of the best ones for the money. :)

I know a few people that have bought one and its lasted the test of time.

But he has said he does not want something like Le maitre, which are about £6-700+.

These are about £150 and do a very good job of hazing/light smoking compared too the crap Kam etc. sell.
I had a Kam one and it was not great. this one seems a bit better smoke, fan lumped unit. :p

I currently use a Gear for DJ's and the fan broke on day 1, but that still fills and maintains a room full of haze using QTX fine fluid.
Having a decent control is very handy as you can adjust all sorts of settings on it to suit the room.

You're right Toby, I don't want to be spending £600+ which is what the LeMaitre and Martin Jems cost. Although I use it quite a bit at the moment, the law of Sod dictates that I'd spend that much and then end up being told I wasn't allowed to use it.

I'll have a look at the Thomann ones and see what's what. So long as it keeps going for the night, I don't really mind it being a smoke machine with a fan, the density of the output is controllable by using lighter fluids (and even watering down with distilled water). My issue at the moment is that the current one keeps cutting out (it's almost like it needs to re-heat itself).

You could as I said do worse than the qtx fh1500. Comes with wired & wireless remotes. It's a beast but just one short blast on the wireless remote & the room is quickly hazed.

Be careful with the wired remote though. The continuous button is latching & can easily be pressed by mistake.

I use the QTX fine fluid and add a bit of heavy fluid and some vanilla scent. :)
