Evox 8 - changing the tops

Had a slightly different sound set up at a wedding this weekend, where it was in a marquee and was asked to be considerate for the neighbours.

My Evox 8 are very bassy, so I decided to test out just my RCF Art 310A speakers that I normally use for background music. As it was, they sounded great, but just lacked any bass. So I decided to run them, with my Evox 8 under the booth running on the "booth" output of the mixer so I could effectively turn the bass "up and down".

And it worked really well - if anything I preferred the sound.

The reason being is that I feel the Evox 8 just lacks a bit of mid punch - I guess the 2" speakers in the top section aren't quite big enough to produce the mid punch.

So if I were to replace the top section of the Evox 8 with the passive Art 310, would that work - and could I run it directly off the speakon cable from the Evox 8? Is the 200w amp RMS for the high speaker in the Evox 8 enough to power the 310?

Has anyone tried it - or even got the passive Art 310 and Evox 8 to try it out and see how it sounds?

I think it would work but I don't know it would sound that good as the DSP in the subs knows the Evox 8 tops limitations and only sends frequencies they can reproduce. The compressor in the DSP reduces the frequencies the tops struggle with so they sound good. If you replaced the tops they would still get the "compressed" or "adjusted " output from the subs. This may still sound better but not perfect.

I want to try the opposite, swap my RCF 310 passive tops with Evox tops and see what happens with the bass etc?
Would look miles better and make lots of space.

Would be interesting if you could but I think it would sound really thin as your Dave sends signals over 100 or 120 hz to your 310s. The Evox tops only get signals over 210 hz from their subs, which matches their response. So I think there would be no response from say 100/120 to 210 hz. A big hole in the upper bass or lower mids.

The Evox tops have no bass at all - in fact, little middle either. They are more like tweeters.

It's the mids that are the only thing missing on the Evox - just misses that kick, hence wondering what the 310 would be like on top.

But agree about the look - the Evox does look amazing.
