I'm trying to get a pre-fader mix sent from my mixer (Alto ZMX 862)

https://www.altoproaudio.com/images/products/ZMX862_ORTHO_WEB.jpg

The Aux 1 (Mon) is pre-fader.

But whenever I plug anything in to the Aux 1 Mon output, all I get is one sided audio.

Does anyone know what these Aux sends are?

Guide says:

You can use a 1/4" TRS cable to connect the AUX 1 MON output to the
input of an external amplifier or active monitor to create a custom monitor mix for onstage musicians.
You can adjust this level with the AUX RETURN LEVEL knob labeled "TO AUX 1 MON." To use an
external effects rack unit, compressor, etc. with the mixer, you can use a Y-cable to connect the AUX 2
FX output to the input of your external device, then connect the outputs of the device to the AUX
RETURN INPUTS of the mixer.

Does that mean it's a mono single channel output?

What do you mean by ‘one-sided audio’?

I’m assuming the Aux is receiving the stereo mix (rather than assignable channels) and sums it to mono.

Just had a quick look at the specs - so you can assign each channel separately to the Aux 1, as long as they’re turned up you should be getting the output, what are you you using the mixer for?

I want to take a mic feed to be able to record it without it going "out" through the main output.

As Aux 1 (Mon) is pre-fader, so I simply turn that up.

However, the output connection is a single 1/4inch jack.

If I plug a stereo jack (y lead) to 2 x mono jacks, I only get audio out on one channel.

So can't see if that single jack ouput sends out a stereo signal, and if so, how I can use it?

You need Mono to 2 mono, I reckon. Linky (http://cpc.farnell.com/pulse/pls00127/6-35mm-jack-to-2x-jack-plgs-5m/dp/AV18930)

Not all sockets are TRS ( Stereo, as it were ) many are TS ( Mono ). Varies from mixer to mixer.

Thank you - yes that does seem most likely.

What a shame it's not stereo. But that will do the trick.
