said months ago this would happen cheap set up from maplins .... sorry for swearing run an ipod through it and put it all on ebay next day as used only once and get most of youre money back or hire a sound system only ?. this runs along side the chat or not chat thread quite nicely.... if you dont why shouldnt couples/clients just go for this option??

discos and disco gear is getting smaller by the day.... my step dad ran a hotel in edinburgh had a disco every friday in the bar ....... turned up in a taxi every week.

not at all but as has been said on another thread cheap mic through the system best man / wedding co ordinator announcing things agree it sounds awful to me but to my "i want to spend 1000 pounds on my entire wedding" people it may well sound an appealing option.

Interesting take on this...

While it may be great for brides, groom and guests to choose there own songs and play them, it's actually the experience of the DJ that makes sure that people dance and enjoy themselves. We know what to play and what not to, when to play it and in which order, what works with what and how to move outside the box to make it work better.

I think that's what our clients need to understand.

ross dont joke know the spot banks that you get for about 30 quid that chase with 4 spots on a metal case??

i was in a disco shop the other day and next to the ipod mixer was a smaller one of these with 3 spots in the case (spots were the size that you find in desk lamps)

just off to my gig with my morrisons carrier bag disco.

Probably the reason that most venues that erequire PAT tested equipment ask to see the certs.

all our staff use pat tested gear, we have a in house pat tester

Hello there folks, I hope you do not mind me popping a reply in to this debate.

Now firstly you may think that I am biased because I work in the mobile Disco Business, however nothing is further from the truth.

Ipod Wedding's, please do not go down this route let me explain why...

Firstly, Your wedding is your special day, its the most memorable day of your life (after the birth of children )

Your music tatse although great I am sure, is perhaps not exactly what your guests will like, also the equiptment itself required to do a great show is more in the region of £7/8000.

At the end of the day I understand that you wish to get yourself the best deal £££'s wise and would ask you to shop around for the DJ, visit specialist websites such as the Mobile Disco Association, or UK-Disco, ask questions and get recommendations.

The average wedding can cost 11K, do you really want to spend say £500 on a cake which looks great and tastes great, can that same cake get people dancing? You can expect to pay £200 - £400 for a quality DJ, who has profesional equiptment, experiance of doing weddings and knowing what music gets people up and enjoying themselves.

At theend of the day lets say your H2B likes Status Quo, and you yourself prefer Celine Dion, your going to have folk up dancing to Rocking all over the world, then slowing down to a slow track, then back up for an up tempo track.,....the best way to end up with an empty hall....

Also in terms of getting your drunk relatives to "DJ", what happens if someone spills a pint on the Ipod rendering it useless, or someone starts to swear over the mic?

Dont ruin your special day for the sake of saving a few quid, some of the resident DJ's are great, but please please shop around and dont always go for the cheapest option, at the end of the day you dont go to pondstretchers if you want to impress someone you go to Marks & Sparks, take that same train of thought when your looking to book your entertainment.

i have personal experience of someone getting rumbled with a fake pat test cert in Blackpool 2 venues called the testers and checked up on him ..... wasnt his certificate.

just read the reply lol someone really put a cat among the pigeons and tell them there is a entertainment forum watching the thread with close interest .... list all the problems we have forseen as professinals and tell them its not spam but just someone genuinely putting forward a differing opinion to theirs. .... oh and be sure to ask them to post feedback after their event . they must really have a bad vision of djs to think this is the only way to get the songs played that they want?

Hi all,

Firstly allow me to note that I am not spamming or touting for business in anyway, I do not know where any of you are from, but I am based in Scotland and deal only with my own area, i do not need to spam or tout for business in anyway and certainly as a professional would not look for business in this way.

This website only came to my attention yesterday, as per another forum.

DJ's pay a lot of money for PLI (Public Liability Insurance), so that if a speaker or light falls or blows up and someone is injured then the insurance will pay the costs (Hotel will not be held liable, its not thier equiptment), PAT - Portable Appliance Testing cetificates, this shows that the electrical equipment conforms to set standards of safety, again an increasing number of venues and all council venues now insist on this.

At the end of the day its you and your future spouses to decide, however if you prepared to spend say £10.5k (avg costs are £11K) on everything else of your wedding, but want to pay £100 or less for your entertainment (which will last approx 5-7 hours depending on your requirements) Then thats up to you, but i would hate for you all to have a marvellous wedding and a poor reception, at the end of the day its the reception that most of your guests will remember the longest.
