Hi just thought I would get some peoples views/opinions on the first intoduction to the audience. I.e. How and When?

For example: -

On 18th, a 7:30 - 12 booking. Start with backing music and let people arrive. Then at about 8:15/8:30 introduce yourself,

"Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, my names .......... and if anyones got any requests Blah blah blah blah.

Hi Danny

I'm not quite sure what you are wanting to know here?

I think he's on about when you start properly - as in when the 'background music' stops and you actually start earning your money.

Again - as with all jobs - it's different - I've kicked off at 8pm after being 'background' for a hour but then again I've been 'background' from 7pm to 9.30pm while guests arrive, talk, eat, etc, then get themselves ready to dance till the end.

I've had some jobs where I don't introduce myself as the dancefloor just fills and I'm off.....

different strokes -but i agree with your 1st post danny, usually around 8-8.30 if u go too early not everyone will be there yet, I use it as an ice breaker to make peeps feel more comfortable, as well as welcome the guests it also give u the chance to tell peeps any relavant info like what time you are finished, even where the bar and the loos are ...lol.

All are different and anything we all say will be based on an average event (and we dont have many of those). I normally backround until around 8-8:30 while it fills up, but at some you need to start straight away due to late set up or start (usually weddings, dont think I have ever had one run on time yet.) All the guests have been stuck there all day and are just waiting to let there hair down. Mind you when the buffet starts its hard work getting em back up. All to bloated and tired by that time.
