Battery powered wireless microphone receivers

I'm looking for a fully unplugged wireless microphone system to go with a battery PA, ideally for 2 mics. I've picked up a cheapy set from Amazon that have a little receiver built onto the back of a 1/4inch jack with its own liion battery, but the mics arent amazing and the system seems to suffer from dropouts.

The only other option I've found so far is to pair a standard system (a cheaper AKG system or something similar) that has a 12v powered receiver with a liion battery pack. But then I'd have the receiver, the pack and a cable for people to break... Ideally I'd like something more self contained and neater.

Anyone have any experience with any systems that work?

No experience of them, but I know the XVIVE u3 is popular with some folk. Not cheap, mind.

It's going to be used for speeches at weddings, etc so quality needs to reflect that. To be honest, I hadn't thought about budget, but it will also reflect their use. If I was bothered about budget I'd have bought a QTx PA with a built in mic receiver :zip:

However, that in itself was one of my best investments - amazing for outdoor ceremonies to put on the registrar (who can't hold a microphone during the ceremony). Plug it into a Maui Go and you have an amazing ceremony system.

Good, but pricey :D

I did look at the compact Rode system, but there's a lot of comments about dropouts with that system. I'm always nervous about using anything 2.4ghz for performance purposes (I already have 2 transmitters on this frequency in my flight case, and that's excluding laptop WiFi...)

I've never had a problem with the Rode system, and I've had it travel some distance.

I've had more dropout from the Alto Stealth Wire:Censored:less system for my speakers than I have from the Rode microphone.

I listened to the speeches yesterday (as performed through my £40 uhf mic) and it was.... OK. Lacked warmth, handling noise was OK, suffered a bit from wind noise close up and quickly lost presence as the mic wandered away from the speakers mouth. Minimal drop outs though from 5m away during the speeches, but a couple when they tried to announce something from 15m away through a small crowd. In the short term wind shields will help. Longer term I will put my hand in my pocket and get something better. Video mics are a good shout.

If this is for speeches, then I can make one major suggestion.

A condenser microphone.

It Will knock the socks off a dynamic microphone *every time*.

My condenser handheld microphone (Sennheiser XSW65) is very comfortable with being held down by the waist (as is often the case during speeches!)
