Ok, so i trialed txt your request service and it was gud, but felt a little cowboyish reading from the phone and texting back,

So i looked into proper soloution and it was expensive.

Then i was on ebay last week looking for a pmcia soundcard, And saw a gprs card i had one years ago and was shocked at how low price had came, When i read through the auction it had sms functionality

And well it hit me, PCMCIA CARD insert sim into it, and txts pop up on screen bingo, And all for 9.99 delivered i think will be one of top bargains for the business.

Maybe try and pick one up yourself ?

You can pick up cheap convertors PCI to PCMCIA of ebay mate probs around 10 quid

Not technically minded enough, so can you explain exactly what you have done in english and how it works - it this not simply connecting to the internet via a mobile sim card, or am I missing something - can you send a link or a picture of what you actually bought?

If i'm reading the thread right, it is a way of sending Texts through your phone, but typing them out on your PC or Laptop - a bit easier to type on the old Keyboard.

If you are looking for internet and e-mail through your mobile you need 'Blackberry' which is basically your e-mail browser on your mobile phone (costs from £23 per month with UWDC!!!:bang: )

However I would really like to know how - in english. What has been bought, where does the sim card go, how does the laptop know it's there, where do you get the text software, how does it work....

As I understand it:

You buy a PCMIA (or similar letters - i never get them right) card (That's the small slimline card that only laptops can hold (the slot like one normally at the front on one side).

In that card, you put a sim card (regular sim card that you would put in a mobile phone), you can then (once installed drivers for the card, and installed the right software to do so, can send and recieve text messages on your laptop, meaning you can type with a keyboard, and keep a record (easily) of what has been requested.

The other device that is mentioned is a PCMIA to PCI converter, this can be used in DESKTOP computers, which basically uses up a PCI slot on the motherboard (those expansions card slots at the bottom on the back of the machine), into that PCI card you can then slot in the PCMIA card which holds the sim card. It's basically a longer-routed way of putting the sim into a DESKTOP computer, this is required because those Sim PCMIA card slots, are designed for you to use the internet on the move, and you don't take a desktop on the move, but you do a laptop!
