The name I was going to use for my Disco is already in use in another part of the country and the have a basic web site set up as well.

I know with Band names that theres bound to be a band in another area with the same name but whats the standing with using a Disco name thats already in use?

Cheers

Tone.

Provided the name is not a limited company or registered trademark there is nothing to stop you using the name yourself PROVIDED you do not try to pass yourself off as someone else or something that you are not. If you are working in different parts of the country it is unlikely that you will have that problem. Think about it how many shops are there called Station News or Pubs called The Queens Head. The law says that on any letterheading or whatever that you produce it should state the name of the proprietor/s of the business and the trading address to avoid confusion. There have been occasions where confusion has occurred but the well known company has been unable to block the use of the name. Locally a Mr Virgin set himself up in a rental shop called Virgin Video. Mr Branson tried to stop him but could not as it was his actual real name and he wasnt trying to pass himself off as anything but a local video shop. If you do copy someone else's name it would probably be polits and good policy to contact them to avoid any bad feeling. For my own part I have used the name Banana Power for 40 years. There is a well known band in Spain who use that name but we have never been confused!

Personally I would think of something new, something fresh, dont copy others if they have the name you want let them have it!!
Lets just say that the other company with the same name are a cowboy company ( No offensive, just making a point) this may effect your own buisness if word got around just because he is .co.uk and you are.com is it worth the risk.
Personally I like the name glitterball roadshow that Dragonfly came up with this has a nice retro feel to it.

Ok, thanks for all the ideas but I keep coming back to the name I like "Rewind". So may go with the name Rewind Roadshow instead of Rewind Disco.

On business cards I was going to use a strap line underneath the name either just "Mobile Disco" or "A Disco for all occasions".

Need to get the name sorted so I can get some cards done for the new year.

Thanks.

I know this thread is a bit old but ive signed up soley to comment it!

My name is nick and i run the original rewind-discos.

For some reason i decided to search my own company name at 20 to 1 on tuesday morning and found this thread.

Im really pleased someone else liked the name, it took me and my cousin about 3 weeks to come up with.

Did you have any luck in the end choosing your name?

Just to say 'Hi Nick' and now that you've found us, I hope you'll stick around and join in other discussions. Why not pop along to the Newbies Section and say hello to everyone and tell us a bit about yourself? :) :)

Hi Nick

Yes did go with Rewind Roadshow after much thought. As I was aware you all ready had the name Rewind Disco, I liked the retro feel of using it also with Roadshow. I used to be in a band called RetroZone, so you can see I can be stuck in the 70's & 80's sometimes.

Hope I haven't upset anyone by using the name Rewind but I did notice you were not local to me. I will however uphold the reliable and professional name of Rewind in my area :D

Just a suggestion Rewind (no.2), (don't forget I'm nuts incase you rubbish the idea) :D

I would put the R's in your logo back to front. (It's also handy for any Russians to read. :p )

OK your nuts but I like the idea :D
Will give it go. Actually that has given me an idea for a small circle type logo using one "R" facing backwards with the other "R" back to back.
