I think you can do the same thing with soda water.

If you put a CD in the freezer, then take it out into a room (at average room temperature) surely it will have a misty layer of condensation on it and the CD player won't be able to read it, similar to if you take a cold box of CDs in to a venue, they sometimes need a wipe to de mist them.

OK - first of all, a CD is digital, so it either plays or it doesn't! 1 or 0!

Secondly, assuming that the trick is that a scratched CD will play better, please explain the reasoning behind it? :)

and if it is cold and has a moist surface, a Denon will return "disc error"

Why can't the 1's and 0's move so fast? Why does the temperature of the disc regulate the rotational speed?

I read about this, aparantly if you have a damaged disk putting it in the freezer makes small ice crystals form in the smaller scratched. Making the surface look smoother to the laser. (thats what i heard dont shoot the messanger)
A bit dubius that it works but the theory seems sound.
But do we want to cart a freezer to each gig just incase ;)

Dont shoot messanger like i said it was in the express or something a while ago. The guy who made those films that self repair damaged cd's said his work was based on it or something. Like I said I have my doubts as well. I agree a laser would melt it but doesnt mean it might not work once for what 10 - 30 sec before it melted all over your cd player. ;(
