OK I have gone through previous threads trying to find what lights I should get first but :bang:

What I'm after is a couple of lights to begin with to give me a good light spread on the dance floor. Then in a couple of months get a scanner or two to add to the effect. Does that sound a sensible idea ?

So is there a pair of lights I could use as a start. I would say £200 is the max for the pair but maybe could go another £50 if its going to be worth it in the long run.

Would you say the Honeycomb at http://www.cybermarket.co.uk/ishop/923/shopscr727.html or the Valera http://www.cybermarket.co.uk/ishop/923/shopscr4371.html be any good or should steer clear and go for a matched pair of lights ?

I hear Datamoons being mentioned alot. Would a pair of these be any good as a start?

Thanks

Tone

Ok, the Valera - otherwise known as a double derby are great and might be a good centerpiece, but I think you would be on a better bet to look for a pair of datamoons - usually a few knocking about 2nd hand, so maybe you could get 4?

The other liight you mention - avoid with a huge stick IMHO

I have been told they are quite good for floor filling, dont know myself but would give them a try, although i use a pair of duets to light the dance floor on their own:)

I used to use a double mushroom, basicly the old version of the honeycomb. It's a 600W effect so very bright and will fill a room well.

Datamoons, fantastic effect used them ever since I started.

I would say to start with try and get at least two datamoons, as allready been said these go for sensible money on ebay and also get a honeycomb as this will fill the rest of the room.

This would give a basic but bright light show and will get you started, then look at maybe getting a couple of scans and a couple of barrels.

ive got some going on ebay at 9pm 2 datamoons and a t bar ...one is fine and in good order for its age (about 4-5 years old) the other works fine but needs a new gobo/colour wheel as some of the little square glass colour thingys have fallen off ..... they are the jack dmx ones not xlr as the new ones are.

im keeping 2 and getting rid of 2 and the t bar has been out 3 times since new.

Yes spotted those.

Money will be available in about two weeks to get the lights stand etc.

So I think I may go the pair of Datamoons with something like a double derby in the middle to start me off.

Sounds interesting. What Watt are they and what is a duty cycle ?

Thank you all for the help on lighting, things are starting to make more sense.
