Booze on speakers

Oi! mate can you take your pint of my speakers please? Ever said that?

So, apart from putting some lights on top of them, or having them up in the air on poles or stands how do you stop it?

My idea is to get some of the grey foam that looks like an egg carton(used in sound proofing etc.) and velcro that on, trouble is though so buffoon could still put a glass on it and then you're guaranteed it's going to be on your decks or lap top!http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-10239.gif

people dont usually put their pints on my mackies as they just slide off have had a whole bottle of bubbly sprayed over a bride and groom though on the dancefloor directly infront of them ....... was not a happy camper one of those moments where u feel the anger slowly increase throughout the ordeal.

must admit this nasty little habbit that the people have is one that always gets my blood boiling,:mad: but i do make it very clear to people as soon as they put the dam glass on my speaker that it will not stay for long.

i have had in the past had to stop the disco becouse some git managed to spill beer on to the mixer :mad: :mad: :mad::argue: this only happened the once

to overcome this problem i put a table to one side of the disco and people now use this rather than my speakers:)
although you still get the odd one out :bang:

another way to stop this is to have black cloth hanging from the bottom of the top speaker to the top of the bass bins.:D

Mate, does my head in too, I, rightly or wrongly, take it that people have no respect. My problem is 95% of my gigs are in pubs with no rooms for tables next to my speakers, the only way to date I've stopped it is to put lights on top but even then I've had them pushed an inch or so to make room for a glass http://planetsmilies.net/angry-smiley-184.gif I can't change how my speakers are, as Cerwins sit on top of each other and are about 5'10" (go work it out metric boys http://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-10033.gif) What with silly season upon us it really does become a problem. I have people do it occasionally, but luckily have never had an incident. I've only recently moved back to conventional shaped speakers though. Before September i used a Carlsbro Active sub which doesn't look as much like a table as normal cabs (in a punters eyes, that is)

I think i'll have to be a bit tougher over Christmas though, really don't want anything being knocked over.

Occasionally they ask. I just tell them that I handed the drink back to the bar as I don't allow anything to be placed on my speakers. I've never had anyone cause a problem because I've removed their drink.

But what do you feel about it, is it just one of things or does hack you off?

It really hacks me off to be honest, which is why I always make a point of physically removing the drink and disposing of it. I also dislike when guests lean over the front of the console to make a request with their drink periously close the the mixer. I cringe everytime I see a glass that close :)

I have printed out a polite notice which I have laminated and stuck to the top of my bins. It reads like this:

Polite Notice.
Please do not put drinks on top of the speakers. Any drinks found on the speakers will be disposed of.

Does the job every time.

all i do is as soon as they put the pint down, il pick it up put it behind me until they finish dancing and then start looking for the pint they put down, then i give it back and explain why it isnt where they left it. they have always listened to me

Yes has happened to me on occasion,

also people leaving drinks actually on the dancefloor right by my equipment,

so easy to knock over and would spill right into the mains sockets

We get this quite alot, normally at club discos where the guests only put down nearly finished or empty glasses, I run them off to the bar. Never had anyone discuss it with me. On occassions when full glasses have been put on the subs, I quickly pop round and hand it back to them simply saying "You can't put that there I'm afraid mate" - Simple.

try putting a pint on top of a 7ft bose l1! yes someone has, then realised it was too high up and too thin, when i had my hk i used to put two rolls of gaffa under the back feet of the bin to tilt it slightly...pint put on...pint slides off onto dancefloor..job done.
