'Bootcamp' Clubnight

Well, certainly a different gig last night, and hopefully the first of many. It was a new gay club night for Preston, and i've been booked on a contract for the next 6 events. The club doesnt have it's own equipment, so i hired the equipment to them on a seperate agreement.

Admittedly, the two drag queens welcoming me at the front door was a little disconcerting, but other than that, the night went well. Everyone wore their 'dog tags', where everyone is given a number on a sticker to wear, and can post messages to other clubbers.

Plus, the night gave me the opportunity to give my speakers a good testing, as they wanted it as loud as possible. Lighting wise, I used 4 imoves for the main rig, plus 2 sets of 4 dynamo's above the bar, so there was good coverage. Also used a couple of iBeat strobes and an iShow. Anyone else do clubnights at all? Do you charge the same rates as any other disco? How popular do they get?

i used to do a bit of club work whilst at uni and tended to charge more for it, only because it seemed to be the "going rate".
all comes down to market rates i guess.

now I put on a club night ever so often but obviously don't get paid for that as it's me organising it.
its the best way to ensure you get to play exactly what you want without having a client to answer to.
last one was a harvest fetival- you had to bring a tin or packet to get in and it was w great night, plus we got a load of food for charity and raffled a giant wensleydale cheese.

I do at lot of club nights, its the main market I target with mobiles filling the gaps. As yet - i've never had a club night where I have to provide any equipment so the fee is usually lower because it's DJ only.
