You Really Want Me To Play That ?????

As a rule I will generally play whatever I am asked for at a party (unless it's on the list of songs that the host really doesn't want to hear, I always ask that question when I take a booking in case a certain song has bad memories).

Sooooooooooooo, last Saturday night I am DJing an Xmas party, full dance floor, great party mood (for that read lots of free alcohol), and this girl comes up and asks if I have Sandra D, (only Sandra Dee I can think of is that really slow track from Grease (Look at me I'm Sandra Dee, Lousy with virginity) so I say Yes I have it, but I don't really think people would dance to it. She gives me 'the look' (puppy dog eyes, cute smile) and says that her and all her friends love dancing to it. To be fair she and her friends had been on the dance floor since my first track, so I figure 'why not' and agree to play it.

I think it's the only time in my career when an entire dance floor has stopped dancing and looked at me as I go from 'Greased Lightning' to 'Sandra D', everybody and I mean everybody went and sat down (even her and her mates).

Then she comes up to me and says 'This isn't Come With Me' I say no it isn't because you asked for Sandra Dee which is what I am playing and Come With Me was by SPECIAL D. She then tells me that was what she meant and goes to join her freinds (not before I have her name though)

At the end of Sandra Dee I back announced it and told everybody that it was a request from a lady who should remain anonymous who got her songs mixed up and if anybody didn't believe me they could ask Carol. At which point Carol stands up and shouts 'Yes it was my fault I told him to play that crap, sorry everybody'

Nice one, I've been caught out a couple of times before, especially when some people only give you part of the title/artist.

I've not done it many times, but I have rushed a track on a couple of times without checking it through the headphones :rolleyes:

Personally if it's a good tune I will play it regardless of how old it is and I would deffo stick that in a 70's disco mix

I will play anything from 50s to chart music , I just find that song & ones like it a bit naff, maybe in ten years time I will like it :)

Hee Hee Steve - I love it when that happens - though I had the kids come up to me on Saturday and seriously ask "Have you got the Court of King Caracticus by Rolf Harris" as they like doing the actions and their mum said I definately wouldn't have it.

Soon wiped the grin off her face!

i used to do a residency in a pub and every week the landlord would try and catch me out with things...

one week he said "my brothers come down for the weekend and has bet me 20 quid you havent got "rolf harris jake the peg" ok i said ill have a search for you .....

after about an hour saw the 20 quid exchange hands ...... played the tune i usually finish on let it go quiet and came up with "just before i go tonight wheres the landlords brother down from liverpool?" he puts his hand up

"well chap ..... you owe him £40 ...... im jake the peg diddle..." whole place was in fits.

Had a wedding in a pub on Saturday.. young lad about 15 walks up, i see him approaching complete with hoody and trackies, expecting to get a request for some fiddy cent or eminem. He then asks me if I could play "Barbie Girl" for his mate (gives me a name but can't remember it). So yeah, i think people just ask for naff stuff just to see if you'll play it.. or to embarass someone.

Played "gay bar" by electric 6 the other week by request (it works well so no reason not to play it) it was an 18th and was asked to decicate it to some lad, which i did and got plenty of laughs.

Leigh....I absolutely LOVED that song when I was a kid.... used to play it over and over and over. Used to know every single word of it as well!

DOH! DOH!Each week it's like a game at home: Guess the tune! We go through the request sheets that have come in and try and work out what they meant!!!

My Favourite one was the request for 'Red Shoes' by 'David Bowie'. Got that one? :)
