How are yours going so far?

The reason for the post is because I haven't had a bad one yet.

They started off good and last nights dinner/dance for Waitrose was brilliant.

Admitedly, they wanted loads of cheesy tunes and party dances, but they were so up for it.:)

People seem generally happier this year to me.

What about yours?

I've already had two small mid-week ones last week but the bigger ones kick off tomorrow - I'll keep you updated.:D

People are quite often miserable as they have to spend the evening with work collegues who they wouldn't normally associate with outside work!

Weird but I'm actually doing Parties this December - was out last weekend doing one, got this weekend off (family commitments) then 2 more parties plus NYE.

Maybe I'm picking up the bookings the 'Xmas gig' folk are letting go?

The R&B lot who were trying to indimidate Steve were a small percentage of the crowd. The rest of the crowd were a lot older.

Yep - more birthdays and anniversaries - whereas last year was all Xmas parties!

It's all good so far.
Have got a few hotel gigs this year, and I have noticed that there might be different groups sharing one function room. This is good as you get a good mix of people. But some groups have coaches booked for about 11.30, so half your audience leaves. Still had a full dance floor at 1am though, really good crowd.

This weekend is going to be a test of my endurance. Disco Friday night, so wont get to bed until about 2.30am, then have to be at work by 7am, home by 5pm, then at the next disco to start setting up at 6pm.
Might have a lay in Sunday.

Lol on same lines as the R&B one. I did a party for my next door neighbours mothers birthday. I get on quite well with them so i gave them a discount as I knew them all. Been to their wedding all that kind of thing so I knew almost all of those who were there. Then this one guy comes up says im a DJ (the usual) I dont like this music play something newer, everyone else in room dancing on foot tapping all 50+ with this guy in 20's. So when they have buffet I play one of his songs as no one wants to dance anyway and it wasnt a dancey track. Then switch back to motown which was going down really well. 2 minutes later 'whats this crap' same guy again coming towards me this time snatched mic from table and proceeds to to shout down it. So I cut it from decks and take it back from him. He then starts to try to get intimidating starts hanging around and deliberatly fiddling with equipment. Then rants about how he does karaoke and knows how to handle a mic and says that he's the boyfriend of someone at the party and im no one as im hired to be there.

At this point the husband of the birthday girl comes up and asks if everything is ok and I tell him whats happened. The birthday girl then comes up and tells me not to listen and ignore any of his requests and would i like a drink.
Guy comes back again, just as he gets to the table im set up on he is intercepted by 4 of the family all about 6'2 who pick him up and throw him out of the venue. lol
Then his girlfriend gets up and starts dancing leaving him outside, looking in with the family guarding the entrance.

Turns out he wasnt the most liked guy in the world and they were looking for an excuse to get rid of him. Result girl now has new boyfriend she met at the party and i got a bonus for the trouble caused.
Made me laugh for hours after I heard the full story from neughbour.

Turns out guy is local trouble maker and does this at all parties so they invited him just so girfriend could see what he was really like.
