Advice on possibly taking on another DJ or 2

Looking at maybe taking on another DJ or 2 at some point(One Man Show at the moment) and was just wondering what the deal is re:Liability Insurance etc.
Particularly if DJ 2 has an accident whilst doing a gig for me or somebody sues?

Depends what basis you are going to take one on as. If you are going to employ someone, you will get all the hassle of PAYE, NI and also be legally required to take out Employers Liability insurance.

Easiest way is to take them as as a self employed subcontractor and the cheapest way is for them to have their own Public Liability insurance. Depends who you have your PLI cover with but it is most probable that your PLI will only cover you.

I would be thinking about them using their own gear and doing gigs on an "As and when basis"

Fully agreed, in fact taking Alan's point a stage further, if you own all the equipment and all the DJ is providing is him/her self, then quite simply that person is an employee and should be on your PAYE.

You should hold the PLI policy to cover however many shows you may have out concurrently.

If your new DJ/s own their own equipment, you need to look at what contracts you intend having in place. Are you buying & selling, or drawing up a third party contract? Whichever, I highly recommend you have the PLI policy referred to above, also that you manage or see proof of current PAT testing.

Think Due Diligence.
