How do you make up mixes? I sequence songs together using the program function on my decks, but only for the start of the night when no-one's there.

Likewise.

If you mix them and have one big MP3 etc I think you can get done for copyright etc, because you've taken someone's track and mixed it (be it only at the start/finish of the song) with other tracks.

However I feel the above is stupid! Might consider doing it though, just another step to making me a "cowboy" oh well - YeeHarr!

I use my mixer and take the output from the aux into a PC and record it as a WAV, that way I don't get any gaps between the tracks and I can choose the point to mix, blend or swap over.

Then save the wav file and burn it back to CD

I don't think that anyone would bring any action against someone who made a copy of a CD they owned, although 'fair-use' isn't law it's taken as acceptable and one MP (forget who) is trying to get it legalised.



As the law stands, you may not make a copy of any CD. The BPI announced that it would not take action against people who copied their CDs to their computer, but it is still illegal.

Fair use isn't taken as acceptable at all in this country, and I know this as I am a member of the LWP (Licensing working party)

You are probably talking about the Gowers report about fair use, and we stil await the outcome of that.

And yes, I think you're right, I don't think the powers that be would have the inclination or the resources to take action against someone recording their own mixes. However, we don't condone that and suggest that you don't post it on here, just in case!

Yes I know copying CD's is definately illegal, you may only make a back-up copy of a program (ie software) and not music or video

However, never has there been a case brought against someone who made a copy of something they have the original of UNLESS they were doing it for distribution purposes.

The 'fair-use' or 'reasonable-use' appears to be a consideration that is taken on-board here

Anyway, it's still legal to kill a Scotsman on a Sunday in York using a bow and arrow, but that doesn't mean that you would not get charged with murder if you did so

The laws in this country concerning this are such a grey area, and I know that lots of people don't know or understand them.

This includes industry professionals from record company executives to radio DJs, so I shouldn't worry too much.

We strive to make people aware of the problems and legalities of the situation, but it doesn't make it any easier.
