Been meaning to ask this for a little while.

What cans do you all use and why?

I have had a pair of Numark £5.99 jobbies for about two years now and unless i could see a huge benefit, wouldn't change them. And yes, I do mix from time to time (although I do tend to use split cue to do it rather than listening for the FOH PA).

I tried a pair of Sony ones a while back and the sound wasn't as big and it wasn more difficult to use...

I've got 2 pairs of Beyer DT100s. Not the best sounding ever, but built like a tank.

For home music listening, I have a nice pair of Bose :)

I use Sennheiser HD25's. They're the best sounding headphones I've owned. Great clarity, very loud, and they cancel out the outside noise great.

The DT100's are designed to sound as flat as possible for studio recording use. Your right, they sound like absolute crap, but in all honestly, they were designed to sound this way.

I've got the SPs and I think I paid about £90, but they have lasted me for about 8 or 9 years so far and I've only replaced the earpads once.

I use the Technics RP-DJ1210. Still industry standard are the Sennheiser
HD25's. Great headphones although I found the last time i had some the sponge bit came off around the ear bits and it would not go back on.

I've had that happen and it is tricky to get them back on, but it can be done.

I use the cheapy Numark ones from ebay - work okay - feel 'slightly' flimsy but have survived being dropped and trodden on a few times.

Have used Beyer DT100s in the past and have a pair - great for studio work, naff for mobile use.

The only 'not so good thing' about the Technics ones is they dont double up as a mic as well as the hd25's. I remember once forgetting the mic as I used it for studio use during the day and and I thought, I know I could use the headphones as a mic. They were crap. Had to get the headphones taxied over asap. cost me about £30. I always have 2 now. On the other hand, when I used to do the Pirate radio, I got caught using my HD25's as a mic all the time. They sound OK. Of course this was when I just started out. Anyway, gig at 8 so..... see ya!!

I've got a £30-40 pair of Ministry Of Sound headphones which were only meant to be a stop-gap, then a spare set. They're still going after getting hammered both at home and out - if it ain't broke....

firstly it does the trick and secondly (and you will never believe this one!!:D ) it helps you interact a little better with the audience when you blurt out '' Just going to make a quick phone call'':D :D :D :D

I would say the benefit is that you don't have to replace your headphones every couple of months like I had to when using cheap ones.

You can replace parts on mine and they have lasted far longer then the cheapies ever did.

Plus the sound is far superior....

The reason i ask is simply because my £5.99 Numarks are better sounding than a £50 pair of Sony, louder - so I can actually here when mixing AND have been faultless for over two years. But I am wondering what advantage a replacement and better quality set would give me?

I use Technics RPF 350 gold, £30 from Argos (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5351895.htm) - never missed a beat in 2 years so far.

The odd thing was, when I first got them, they were tinny as anything, but after couple of months of use they sound OK now.

But I do have an old pair of Sony MDR CD480's for home listening... :D

Edwin has a pair of Sony's (not sure of the model), they were around £50 I believe. I have a pair of Senns for £25.

The Senns are louder, better sounding, and the bass is immense.

I've got a set of the Pioneer HDJ100's, bit dissapointed when the lead went within 6 months, but on to my new lead and they are as good as gold. Comfortable to wear and loud enough for when I do club nights. I would like a set of the Senney HD25s tho - they cancel out the outside noise a bit better! That said a decent pair for the money.

I've had cheap ones in the past and they dont compare.

Personally got two sets. For mobile gigs i use a pair of Sennheiser HD200 mainly because they're light weight, and have decent reproduction with lower sound levels.

For club work, i use my AKG K271's, as whatever the sound level in the club, i still get a good, clear beat with half decent mid's and hi's.

Cant reccomend the Akg's enough, but on a tighter budget, the Sennheiser's are good build quality.
