We've been doing a lot of Christmas parties at one of our regular hotels this year, varying in size from their ballroom to the function room to the main bar / restaurant. Friday night Nick, Lol & I were all working there. My punters wouldn't come into the ballroom before it was time to eat (largely due to it being no smoking, they all stayed in an ante room a quarter of the size), so I put some Xmas music on continuous play & went to see how the other 2 were doing.

In the function room none of the law firm Lol was playing to had arrived yet (over an hour after his start time) & he was playing tunes to himself & the bar / waiting staff.

In the bar / restaurant area where Nick was it was pandemonium the last 10 / 12 X Factor contestants (minus the 2 finalists) were in there getting mobbed by all & sundry.

Saturday I was doing my gig in the same area when about half way through all the "reject" contestants (the ones that didn't make boot camp but gave (for one reason or an other) memorable auditions) came in (the studio is walking distance from the hotel & all the "famous" contestants were staying there). What a difference!!!!!!!!

On Friday the ones with some modicum of talent were (at least those I encountered) nice down to earth people who accepted the fact that people would be asking for autographs / photos etc, but really just wanted to be able to chill out & relax in their own little group.

Saturday, well what can I say????????? Amongst the talentless (insert derogatory term here) I had to put up with were the Scandinavian/Russian/whatever he was lad who decided he was going to introduce himself to me as ..........(whatever his name was, I forget now) from the X Factor, while I was halfway through dedicating a song for somebody's birthday! He was mildly audible over the PA but my response was most definately. "Really? Is that a fact? I don't know if you noticed but I was in the middle of saying something, now go away & come back when you've learned some manners"

Seemed to do the trick.

Then, when I was Billie Jean, I got the one who's talent seemed to extend to doing a bad impersonation of Michael Jackson, came up & asked "Can you rewind that so I can dance to it?" (in other words "I want to do my act that people may have seen me do on TV, because nobody is paying any attention to me") My response "No" Him "Why not?" Me "A, because CDs don't rewind that would be cassettes (that went straight over his head) & B it is very unprofessional to play the same track twice in a row!"

Did the trick too.

Then on my way out with my kit fighting through the crowds of "starstruck" fans I asked one of the rejects if he could move so I could get through with an immensely laden trolley. His Reply "Do you know who I am?"

My response "I don't give a "BEEP" who you are you are in my way & if you move 2 feet to your left I can get past. As I've had a busy night of entertaining people & I'm feeling quite tired I would appreciate it if YOU GOT OUT OF MY WAY!"

Did the trick :D

Amazing though, the ones who had been on TV more than just the once seemed regular people, the ones who only just scraped into their 15 minutes of fame (copyright A Warhol) were the ones who turned into total screaming divas!

I can think of a few of them I'd have like to have jammed in the revolving door, I know that much.

On doing a bit of research, I have found out 2 of the worst offenders were Dennis the Russian menace & Onkar
