CRB check - help please!

Hi folks,

I have been looking into getting CRB checked but the geezer from the CRB department says I would need to be checked by an employer or through an agency.
Just wondering how you lot went about getting the check done.

I'm doing a party for my mate's 4 year old next week and he said he would apply for me as a client but dunno if that's possible?

CRB checking is a minefield mate - most of us are done through employment.

My police check is done through DDC (Due Diligence Checking) Their phone number is 0845 644 3298, you do have to pay but they are very efficient, I hope that hopes, Dan.

You cannot apply for a CRB check yourself. I got my check done through voluntary charitable work I do.

Just that we are in discussions to 'get around' the problems to make it possible for all DJs to get CRB checked!!!! :D :D :D

There are 3 main types of CRB checks

The one you can do yourself is the easiest, go to a police station and ask them for 'subject access' form, most forces call this a DP1. You pay £10 and you get a police check that lists any convictions that you might have. This usually suffices for proof that you are not a 'dodgy' person.

A standard CRB check is something carried out by an employer, you give your consent to it and the check is carried out and sent to you for you to present to your employer. The information contained on it is almost identical to that which the DP1 returns.

An enhanced CRB check can only be carried out by certain types of employers and usually applies when you are working unsupervised with vulnerable people (children, elderly, handicapped etc etc). This goes deeper than standard checks because it contains information about 'non-convictions' from police intelligence and details of any investigations that your name was linked to as opposed to ones where you were actually convicted or found guilty of.

As an individual you can only apply for a DP1 (subject access check), however, if you have a 'day-job' your employer may well be approved for a CRB check so you could get one that way.
