BTEC Qual- DJ skills/ Club promotion

Hi guys,
Took a bit of a plunge and decided to enrol on the BTEC courses in DJ Skills and Club promotion at Bangor tec.
They're both "short" courses lasting form Jan -May for one night a week each (tue/weds). Not quite sure what they actually involve yet but hopefully of some benefit

Was wondering if anyone else had done the courses and if they were any use?

I think these kinds of things are useful - but it depends on the environment in which they are held. Being someone who works in education, I can say that teaching in real-life situations is better than the classroom anyday.

So for this kind of course, I'd expect at least some time looking at a club system in situ, a mobile system from the ground up, all the 'in and outs' of PA and mixers plus rudiments of lighting and DMX plus, the most important - electrical safety. No good being a good DJ if you've just blown your mixer up!

Bit of an old thread, but did you do this course and how did you get on?

I could see this type of qualification being useful in some areas, but a DJ cannot be hired on the grounds of his qualifications - it just doesn't work like that! :)

In saying that, it might tip the scale in your direction if there are several candidates for the job.

Valuable for youngsters with no experience to help them learn something about the work.

well it's an interesting point that... To educate and teach them new skills in the art of DJing... Something that should (and quite possibly will be :D) promoted in the industry allot more...

Bit of an old thread, but did you do this course and how did you get on?

Actually it got cancelled due to lack of numbers :(

This course was due to be run by Bangor Tec while I was living in Belfast last year but never did happen.

I'm now in touch with Andy at Dj Academy with a view to doing a compacted one to one course of their 8 week part time course they run.

As my djing knowledge has been gained from self teaching / the net and this forum ;) I thought it would be a good idea to get some proper training before going full time next year.

My contract with my current job ends in August of 2009 and I get "resettlement" training which includes a cash grant and up to 7 weeks of resettlement time.

The 7 weeks can be spent either on courses or as a work attachtment within my chosen new career. So if anyone wants an extra pair of hands then we could well be able to arrange something ;)

its a good idea, providing jobs for installion companies etc...



theres a college in America called: Full Sail. they do sound,lighting, web building game design etc.. always the way. all in america not england :( :lol:
