have you ever been to a gig where a dj will play songs 3,4,and even 5 times in one evening.
i had the unpleasant experience of going to my pals birthday party and the disco played i don't feel like dancing 5 times and something kinda ooh 4 times oh and the dreadful cha cha slide slide twice. my moto is never play the same song twice unless in a venue where there is an ever changing audience.
what are your views on this:attn: :attn: :)

I certainly wouldn't play a song 4 or 5 times.

I might play it twice if it was a big request though.

At one of the discos i did recently (40th birthday) i played a fat boy slim number twice.. the birthday dude requested it then left the room!! - and then i don't feel like dancing twice.. because it is such a big hit.. but normally i wont play numbers more than once..

I've been know to play a song twice if it's being requested a lot. No more than that though.

I sometimes play Cha Cha Slide twice at kids parties, because sometimes it goes down a storm first time i'll finish on it.
It looks good to parents who are picking the kids up if you've got all the kids dancing.

This is one of my pet hates too. I really don't like playing the same song twice and don't if I can help it. If it gets requested a lot even after having played it, I'd probably play it again depending on the tune in question. At things like kids parties and younger kids stuff (8 - 12 ish) they often ask for the song to be played 2 or 3 times :confused: Usually the dancey ones like whigfield, macarena etc.

I play the same song as many times as the crowd want it played...At the end of the day if i play scissor sisters say twice and its went down a storm twice, if a few people ask for it again, i aint gonna say - "no sorry limit reached" i want repeat bookings so if they want it and are dancing to it - then hey ho ....i feel like dancing again....

Only play any song twice even if its a great song twice does it.

Good point that if its a big hit and asked for again and again i will play it what the party crew want they get .......... most of the time anyway.

Agree with Lewnics here as well. Playing a song more than once is fine is the guests want it playing twice. I think what I don't like is DJs playing songs twice (regardless of it being a good song) because they can't think of anything else to play! :doh:

nothing wrong with playing a couple of songs twice but would nt play more than twice unless requested by the party organiser.if i was at a party where that kept happening i would get the feeling the dj has run out of ideas

I went to my next doors wedding 2 years ago as a guest, the DJ played the same song 6 times in the first hour, guessing this was not going to be a great evening myself and wife left early. This year he booked me for his mothers 65th birthday party. At the end the lady came up (birthday girl) and said thank god I was 100x better than the idiot they got for their wedding (her words not mine)
Must say guy not only played same song repeatedly he left 10 second silences between tracks, didnt use the mic until asking bride and groom to come to dance floor and when he did no one could understand him. Had volume in a small venue at max on a 4 speaker set up (2x15 tops 2x18" bins) Im used to playing loud but this was actually painfull and he refused to turn down.
Gonna give him a score out of 10 its gotta be 1 and he only got that because he uses cdn-88s and I happen to like them (shame he didnt know how to use them)

I'm with you all too. Scissor Sisters and Fedde Le Grande lately are the only tunes i played twice .. personally don't like doing it but like you say if you want recommendations and repeat bookings you have to go with the crowd and whats being asked for.

I try & avoid playing anything more than once. That said, if there have been a lot of requests for it sincethe first play & a reasonable ammount of time has passed....... never say never.
