does anyone else carry a backup mixer, if not what do you use if a mixer goes down?

Don't take it with me, but have another mixers at home. The possibility of my mixer failing on me is very small, there's more chance in the car breaking down, or breaking my leg!

you could prob wire cd's/mixers straight into amp in an emergency i guess.

I carry a backup mixer just incase although never had to use it so far!

For anyone looking to get a backup mixer you could get far worse that the Behringer UBB 1002 - http://www.behringer.com/UBB1002/index.cfm?lang=ENG can pick them up for around £50 and as it's small it wont take up much space in the car/van. Know a few DJ's that have them and say they are great little units.

As posted in another thread....this is even smaller and even cheaper! http://www.decks.co.uk/products/mixers/behringer/dx626 It has 3 channels and eq on every one including mic.

Or were you looking for one with 4 channels for your DAC3 and Denons?

Don't forget it's only for back up and to get you out of a hole, and probably won't be needed anyway.

Dont use a backup myself, I haev a spare at home incase but dont carry it. I use a 4 channel mixer anyway so if a fader starts playing up ill switch to backup channel and fix fader at home. Irealise they can fail but I think with good maintenace and keeping an eye on potential problems it should be as reliable as any other equipment. (crossfaders exempt from that)

I know these things don't go wrong very often, but what on earth is the point in having a spare mixer and keeping it at home?

cant work out the outputs on that though, only one master output?

I take back-up of all the main items to every event (cd unit, mixer, amp, speakers, mic and headphones). That way if the unthinkable happens and some hardware fails, I can be up an running again within minutes.

I take out spare CD Players, Mixer and mic. It's the kit I started out with years ago, cheap JB Systems stuff but will get me out of a hole if need. It's all in one flight case that sits up the front of my trailor, takes up hardly any space and have never had to use it but it's there.

I Totally agree why have back-up equipment and leave it at home????? I carry A complete back up system with me and spares as well. It does not matter how expensive your equipment is, or how reliable, things can and occasionally go wrong. I have recently had problems with a cd player which is very tempermentle:bang: , it cost me over £500 and have only used it for just over a year before the problems started, but my old Kam 960 which to be honest has had a bit of battering (accidental of course) is still working with now problems. The new citronic one which has been a complete waste of money:mad: has been replaced by a new nurmark 35s, which seems to be going well. (Touch wood:) )

Spares box contains:

Old laptop. Reasonably up-to-date copy of the 3,000 most used tracks. Copy of OTS-DJ on CD and printout of licence key.

Mixer. Some cheap 3-channel jobbie off of eBay. Tested once, works OK. Has Mic and headphone sockets plus 3 lines; that's all I need in a crunch!

Two £20 no-brand walkman-style CD players with line level output and mains adaptors for same.

Fuse pack. Bulbs for everything. Spare IEC cables (very long). Spare extension reels. Spare Mic. Spare headphones. Spare audio cables of every variety. Spare power packs for all essential DC-powered items. Spare batteries for radio mic and walkie-talkies.

Whole lot fits in a small plastic tub which takes up no room at all.


Usually run the rig off two amps, but can manage on one if needs be by running the speakers in series. Third amp at home (don't carry due to weight but what's the chances of losing both in the same night?).

mixers may rarely break but i have fallen up some stairs with one causing a board to come loose which makes a horrid noise when you switch it on why i still have my original citronic msx1 small but does a job if youre swimming in the brown river.
