Pre-wired rigs

Hi, iam looking to pre-wire my rig. I have currently got a 6ft giraffe djstand with rig on top. I was thinking if i was to go drilling holes on the rig it may weaken it an bend when i put the lights on there??? iam looking to put 11powercon output chassis mounts on there?? would this weaken it?? what do you guys think?? or do giraffe do a prewired rig?? or would a ultimax rig fit on the a giraffe deck stand?? :confused: :confused:

Yes it will weakin the bar.The ultimax dual bar should fit then you can hang your lights off the bottom bar and wire up the top bar

Yep, not a good idea to go drilling holes in it, especially with a thin bar. You could make a seperate bar with all the plugs in that just attaches up onto the bar that holds the lights, with velcro/cable ties/chewing gum though :D

Ah.. memories, i bought my pro light winch up goalpost rig from there too! Only two years ago mind. Have hired a few bits and pieces from them over the years too.

Could you not use clamps or even tie-wrap to the bar? (I'm not familiar with the connectors you mention)
Or could you use cable mount versions?

Cable ties are a cables best friend :) After gaffa of course :D

Can anyone tell me a retailer of giraffe 'accessories' i need just the lighting rig (double bar) off the 6ft deckstand. I used to know a website that sold various electrical bits, they had some but ic an't remeber the site address:bang: :bang:

no giraffe stands are different to prolight

If you're planning on the dual bar from ultimax, they recommend upgrading the poles as well, and iIknow from experience that the ultimax poles are stronger than the giraffe ones, so you need to be careful!

Powercon are like speakon connectors they are (expensive) mains power connectors but you can't get them mixed up with speakon :D

Drilling bars etc, won't always weaken them, far too many variables involved to make a blanket statement as such.

Depends on size of bar, guage of the material, hole spacing, strength of connectors, how the holes are created (punched, drilled, reamed etc).

For example, look at vented disc brakes, for years they were always solid, then for performance reasons and better heat dissipation they started drilling them, doesn't weaken them to a point of concern. Far from it.

There are plenty of lighting bars out there that have pre-drilled holes for bolting units directly to them.. If you're concerned take it to an engineering firm and ask them their advice, they will measure the bar and take into account the material type and tell you for certain if it's safe to do or not.

If you're unsure then best to avoid and look for a different bar.

By rig, I take it you mean stand
